I am with Shaw Entertainment, it is a Canadian company. From what I gather talking to you yanks with Cable internet they are far more reliable than some of the companies southside. I would recommend doing some ground work and reading up on a company and the service provided before making the leap.


Agreed I use Shaw here in Canada also and its quick and reliable. I've had 5 minutes of downtime in the last 4 months. Also customer support is A+ especially compared to the local phone company who are a bunch of donkey ********.

But for the VoIP phones I'd prefer Vonage namely because its a lot cheaper then Shaw. Tech support is alright although its the typical ********** I'm calling India" thing.

Had some connection problems with that though, couldn't make outgoing calls for a few days and had to call them 4 times one night to get it fixed.

Also the difference between Shaw and Vonage for VoIP is that Shaw guarantees network connectivity for their VoIP phones.

With Vonage its reliant on YOU maintaining enough bandwidth to produce the absence of latency required by VoIP to work properly.

Of course, I don't need technical support either, but for those that do.

The main advantage of a cable provided digital phone line over a Vonage style lin, is that the cable company usually gives you extra bandwidth to compensate for the amount taken up by the phone service. With vonage, whenever you are talking on it, your internet conenction is somewhat affected. probably not a huge deal for most of you though.
