religion.

mans creation, not Gods.

vanity, pride. mans sins.

we are all a bunch of idiots playing in a mine field. those of us that would kill for something man created, and those of us that would insult that which men would kill for.

children in a sand box. someday, we might grow up. but probably not before we destroy ourselves will we understand the stupidity of our actions......on both sides.

In summary:

Western Press: "Freedom of speech is more important than peace. Because we're allowed to say something, we have a duty to say it - even if it achieves nothing but trouble"

Muslim Extremists: "Nobody should try to physically depict Mohammed"

Nobby: O RLY?

Muslim Extremists: "Hey, we're the radicals, infidel! If we can twist al Q'uran to justify our actions, we can just as easily rewrite history"

Right Wingers: "See? See? We told you brown people are t3h 3bil!"

All the other Muslims: "Crapshitfuck"

Aegis: "Show us bewbies!"

Al'Katie: "CTRL+C, CTRL+V"

ToUtem: "Anyone wanna see my knob?"

Varussword: Why can't everybody just get along?

I'm not a big fan of religions at all, but those people burning down the ambassads are obviously not thinking of the consequences.

When Bush will burn down Iran, we won't hear Europe protests like they did for Irak.

******* idiots, you just pissed off your best allies.

Edit : Oh, and some extremists are now requesting a fatwa on the people who drew the cartoons. Putting it simply, they're request the head of their religion to authorize the murder of those cartoonists.

Although I'm sure no one's going to be bothering with this thread anymore since recent excuses to expel patriotic wounded-pride rhetoric have cropped up, I'll just add a touch more...for fun.

Not much new has been offered and generally people have exhibited a strikingly unsurprising lack of empathy towards muslims that are being branded extremists. I've met a great many muslims (not in the middle east-they exist in other places as well, my friends) who have treated me with respect and dignity, as I them.

Is your pissing contest still worth it now that embassies are torched and people killed and injured?

I'm still going to stick to my guns on how stupid and unnecessary the passionate defense of the cartoons was. And now of course Canada has reprinted some of the cartoons..hurray. My province's neighbour too, no less.

http://www.canada.com/globaltv/national/story.html?id=88840dde-98ee-4434-a963-6e4300222e06

It's funny that everyone's claiming there are hordes of people going ballistic against Danes et al. There are quite a few people that are pissed off, but they're spread all over the globe. Keep in mind that the media coverage is naturally going to be sensational (I'm in media and steeped in this ignorant ******** and unrepresentational. The extremists are few and far between.

I say again: we'd be better off saying 'sorry if we offended you, our bad.'

And although I dislike most religions in general and Christianity especially, I still think that outright defamation and insult is petty and unnecessary. I'm going to quote Bill Hicks for fun with "Let me ask you a question. What business is it of yours what I eat, say, do, think or take into my body as long as I do not harm another living soul on this planet? ...*pauses for effect*... and for those of you having a little moral dilemma right now, I'll answer the question. NONE of your ******* business." just an aggrandized 'live and let live'.

We can and should evolve without war. And not just because war's dumb...we've also been doing it for so long it's just tired. Let's think of something new and progressive, war's sooooo cliched.

Could someone actually read the Islamic Holy book and show me WHERE it says that any of the prophets can't be pictured?

It's an orthodox Muslim belief. That means that only a small percentage of Muslims actually believe it.

Most of the outrage isn't even about the turban comic. It's about the OTHER cartoons that some moron brought to the middle-east. The problem is no one is making that distinction.

BTW. Persians have been making pictures of the prophets for years now. On giant fresco's no less.

This whole situation is basically like saying the Ahmish people of the world suddenly got upset that we're using tech.

Congratulations you fucking idiots for not doing a little research.

When, if ever in your mind, does it become a non-trivial matter exactly? Like at what point is it "to far" and we start kicking in with the whole "freedom of speech" thing again? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the whole point of civilized society and freedom of speech was the ability to be able to talk about anything without fear of violent reprisal. And if there are violent reprisals, society most certainly is not supposed to condone the violence by rewarding those doing it. Killing over cartoons is as bad as killing someone because they're gay, or black, or whatever dumb *** reason people have come up with through out history. This is just one more bunch of sick ******* that need to have their thought process corrected.

No, our defense of free speech was not worth it. We feel terrible at having driven the muslim extremists to arson and murder. If only we had been more sensitive to their beliefs, none of this might have happend. We are an evil, worthless people.

Your reading skills could use a little polish.

I retracted that statement a few posts down in response to Wingchild's similar counter. Your point is moot.

Sure the cartoons are not in the best taste, but blaming the cartoonists or publisher for 'embassies torched and people killed and injured' is plain stupid. They need much more defense. The reaction from the Muslim culture confirms this. Comparing the behaviour of the editor/cartoonists to the jihadists is ludicrous. Do the cartoons encourage or incite arson and murder against Muslims in any way? Do not try to justify the retaliation by blaming the cartoons. The only cause is the oppresion of Muslims right to free speech. They have no legitamate way to react, no way to voice their opinion except through bloodshed and violence.

Pointing fingers at the Danes is stupid - Oh, but they started it!! Please, it didn't work in primary school, it doesn't work now.

If these muslims would just follow the Quran none of this would happen.

They need to stop listining to thier shiekhs/religiousmen and pay more attention to what the Quran indicates.

No where does it say anythingabout drawing Mohammed.

Jesus christ (forgive the irony). 2-3000 people demonstrating in a capital that has 12-14 milion people in it. And you are talking about the muslim world.

They have a right to print those pictures in the name of free press, but is it moraly right to do so when it is taboo, and not even taboo to youre own culture but to some one elses and then get suprised when they stand up for there believes ?

Try for once to understand that they dont live in US, they dont have internet, international news etc etc. all they heard was that some country in the north made a mockery over the most sacred thing they have in life.

Stop being so ******* selfrighteous and try to learn something about the world instead.

I dear you to point out on a map the 3 last countrys that US have had a war with, and for what reason they did.

There are ******* there who I wouldnt mind putting an missile p the *** on. They are te one miss leading the people with religious propaganda. The same thing goes for christianity.

Did you accualy compare the danish flag as a sign from god ? Thats so hilarious. During a battle for Denmark ? hahaha I love to read qoutes that people put in without having any ANY criticism against the original author. comparing stamping on the flag as an disrespect against religion ? oh man.

oh btw, **** mohammed, **** jesus, and **** everybody who puts them self higher then the rest.

I have a cousin that is muslim and in the Quran it does say that he should not be depicted in anyway. But, at the same time if your going be representing yourself oneway don't get upset over a damn cartoon. Then the worst part is, a muslim cartoonist made a cartoon, of Anne Frank sleeping in the bed with Adolf hilter. That is f'ed up. Now they have f'ed up the embassy, they just totally just disgraced themselves. You don't attack back, like a bunch of school kids. "Oh you called me doody head, so I'll call u one back..." People are friggin retared!!!

Before you know it, seperation of church and state won't even exist anymore. It's gonna be belive in god or die.

-Gay people should be able to get married in all 50 states. They have the right to be unhappy like the rest of America's 2/3 marriages.
-Too much sex on T.V...blah, blah blah..no one is complaining about the strip club down the street.(at least they don't where I live)
-"Gay people shouldn't adopt kids!"-says the priest who molest little boys after mass, and politicians who steal money from charities and visit their mistresses every saturday.

And what is sad is that people actually fall for that ****. "Oh, he is a Christian, and we have same values lets elect him for President!", as the President milks the country for all its worth, and we're all gonna be left with one last statement.."Beastmen are on the rise." then we will be put out of our misery

I hate people who play that holyier than thou ****. Stfu, and stop judging everyone...hmmm isn't that one of the commandments.
What makes one person better another is how they treat people, and the examples they make. No one is better just because of the God they worship, or whatever religion they follow. If people just looked at eachother to try and help one another instead of criticizing eachother the world would be much better.

---------------------------------------------------

Bush, Hitler, i can see the parallel.

eventually, the Muslim world will come to understand they will NEVER be able to kill all non-muslims. just like the Roman Catholic Church came to understand after trying to "save" the moors during the crusades by torturing them and burning them alive at the stake. eventually.

God did not create religion. God just is. Man created religion and used God as a sword of rightiousness to sanctify their actions in their quest for power and controll.

the christions did it 1000 years ago, the muslims are doing it now. whos next? pat robinsons army?

this is why our forfathers insisted on a seperation of church and state. they had the foresight, and 1000 years of history, that clearly showed where ANY powerbase governed by religion will eventually lead. death and destruction.

false prophets will come, invoking the name of God, and will lead many into damnation. clerics? popes? rabi,s? take your pick.

the ONLY solution is FREEDOM. freedom to live as you choose to live. and right now, we are DENYING that freedom to the people of the middle east....and paying the price for it.

which leads me to the fact that non-religious leaders are as big a bunch of idiots as religious leaders.

we are doomed. which, i might point out is exactly what the Bible says. trust in no man, weather he is a religious leader or the president. we were all instilled with a basic sence of right and wrong, that has been tainted by our leaders. we know killing is wrong. we know forcing our will on a weaker country is wrong.

man created religion, not God. and as such, it is tainted with the sins of man. so, go kill for your religious leader. go kill for your president. either way, you will get your just reward. damnation. it is the ONLY place any MAN can lead you.

You tell her that her dad did the world a favour. The reaction to the cartoons justifies their being published.
