I still think it would have put up a decent showing at the least- since it doesn't need to slow down for corners anywhere near a much as a normal car (thanks to not having as much mass to pull it out of line) and it *is* pretty damned fast. As much as you're touting crotch rockets, this thing is pretty nifty in comparison.

And he may have called it that, but there were only 3-4 cars that beat it on that track, no less than the Ferrari Enzo (that one was funny, the drummer for Pink Floyd let them borrow his for this test) for one.

Haha, ok, lets race...
Obviously you need to try something other than who steps on the gas fastest at a stoplight. A lot of corvette drivers are not always trying to drag race, in fact I generally drive slower in the corvette becuase I know its a cop magnet.

The dick-waving over cars vs. motorcycles is kind of silly.

Something that's lighter will go faster than something that's heavier, given the same force applied.

Everything else is really arbitrary...you can make a tiny car as light as a motorcycle and then IT will be faster (kind of like that Atom).

But I don't like cars. Smiley: frown I'd consider this a successful ninja-hijack. Smiley: grin

Being married and having almost no interest in cars other than getting from point A to point B safely, I think I might actually know more about purses. When I see the word 'chassis' my eyes start to glaze over.

Klyia you sound like my opposite, I would rather talk about cars than purses any day. I'm one of the few women who haven't carried a purse for 5+ years now. (if I go to a formal dinner I might consider it)

But from what I know, shadow, is that no car can out handle a 2006 Mini Cooper S. That baby can take a 90degree turn at like 45mph, just the G-force (haha GGGGG-Face, remember those commercials) would be too much for a Human to withstand and be able to hold on the steering wheel. So maybe it can out corner some cars, but what Nobby said about American cars is true. It can't really out corner European cars. My mom's bf has an '99 M3 and it out cornered a vette which I believe was a '02. It was a cone course and the vetter was prety damn slow due to the turns, but the M3 took it real well. There was even an older M3 that out cornered everyone. What was even funnier was that someone brought a viper which did the worst.

Then again, it really depends on the driver, I guess. But I'll agree with Nobby that European cars can out handle most American cars.

true. i mean, if your into go-carts that is.

the lighter the car, the lower the center of gravity, the better its gona corner, barring suspension limitations that is. a geo metro, inspite of its weight, corners like a pregnant cat running from a dog.

what muscle cars delivered over the rest was raw power. and i agree, most american cars handle like crap compared to just about anything else on the road.

the corvette has come a long way though. take off those plastic body panals and underneith is a pure racing machine. they shaved almost 1000 pounds from the car from the 1982 to the 1985 model. the 2006 is even lighter, with a more powerfull engine. the zo6 has over 500 hp on a very light, well ballanced alluminum chasis. even the transmission and rear end diferential have alluminum housings now.

honestly, if you have not driven one lately, you have not driven one period. it is a totally differant animal than what it used to be. not to mention, for the price of a well equiped 3 series BMW, you could drive something not even Ford would put its GT up against for a whopping 100,000 dollars more.

but, personally, i think vetts suffer greatly from a serious lack of styling. they are really plane jane to look at, inspite of what they are capable of. while everything underneith got serious upgrades, the body looks to be completly ignored style wise. the interrior is not much to look at either.

the new camaro, however, just rocks.

i like the challenger concept car too, but after owning a new dodge...once....ill never own another Dahlmer Chrysler product ever again, nor will any of my immediate familey. they make great engines and good looking cars, but they are made like crap and the warentee they give you is not worth the paper it is written on.

just one example, my 1 year old dodge was rusting badle under the seats inside the car. EVERYONE but dodge usses galvanized metal through out cars now. the 5 year "rust through" warentee? ROFL, it is a rust THROUGH warentee. they will repair it ONLY if there is an actual HOLE caused by rust, and then, they will repair ONLY the HOLE.

many other problems i had with that piece of lemon law bait, but lets not get into it. sufice to say, they could bring back the superbird and i wouldnt buy it.

i have owned alot of camaros and vetts. 4 69 camaros at differant times, including a 69 Z-28 with the origonal 302 motor, hugger orange with white stripes. muncie 4 speed and 12 bolt to boot. my favorite was a 69 ss, forest green though. the z-28 didnt have air conditioning, and with 4-11 gears, really was a boitch to drive anywhere, especially in the rain.

the new camaro concept car puts something back into cars that has been sorely missing for close to 30 years now. sorely missing. still missing in the vetts in my openion. that vicious mean look of the late 60,s early 70,s and some balls to back it up. style, pure and simple.

i want one. i will have one.....in 2008....ARGHHHH.....i can wait.....

the new Ford Mustang is the best looking ford to hit the market in 30 years. their sales are screaming for it too. hopefully, it will be the beginning of a new trend for american cars......again....

was almost looking at one....almost....then i caught a glimps of the Camaro concept car at the auto show here in miami. OMG, the pictures do not do it justice. it is a seriously awsome looking car. the fenders were slick with the flow of drool from the thousands of people gawking at it. they would have to be blind to not see the impact it had on anyone who gazed at it. no one walked by it without a double and triple take.

2008. bush leaving office, and the most awsome car chevy will produce will hit the market. makes me tear up. gona be a great year. i can feel it in my bones.

True, but the Mini does have some power, my mom works at a BMW dealership and her bf is a BMW mechanic (so my expertiese is in that area more so) and now BMW owns mini, and she works in the service department but she can take home rentals sometimes and brought home a Mini Cooper S, and that thing is really really fast. Even for a "go-kart," BMW is even considering beefing it up more by adding an M engine into it.

You make a valid point on the muscle cars also. Although they deliver raw power and all, American cars and roads for that matter aren't all wavey as in Europe so we focus on our power and not so much as handling. Plus, how many people can get above 80mph on the highway. That's why the nicer, beefier cars are in Europe because in some areas there are no speed limits or they are higher. True there are some in America, but not where people visit often.

America = power
Europe = Saleen(sp?)

I believe that it all depends on the area.

Are you fu[/red]cking kidding me? The new Mustang is the ugliest once since the years of the Mustang II. Their sales numbers? Please...they can't be all that fu[/red]cking impressive if they're getting ready to axe over 8000 jobs.

I hope they match the performance to the good looks of that car. With all the retromobiles out there, the new Camaro just stands out, and looks like a natural evolution. Sort of combining everything Camaro has been. I bought a 98 Z-28 for my wife. It is showroom perfect and she wont part with it.

4:11's on the street? God I miss those days... Since I refuse to grow up, my current project has 4:10's hehehehehe...

----------------------------------------------------

yea, i bet you thought the pacer was the wave of the future too. hehehe

its a matter of taste. Ford has been selling the crap out of their reinvented pony car though.

as for axing 8000 jobs, your getting that confused with Kraft foods. they are axeing 8000 jobs. ford is axeing 25,000 jobs here in the U.S., just like GM axeing 30,000 jobs here.

but it is not because they are going bellie up, it is because they are shifting ALL of their production, eventually, over seas where they can pay an asembly line worker 50 cents an hour(average wage in china) with NO medical care, NO retirement, or any other kind of benifit as opposed to dealing with unions here in the U.S.

they are following the wave of american manufacturing plants out of this country. but that is another issue for another thread. funny how you dont see Bill Ford mentioning their expansions plans in China and Mexico and other places in their new commercials. selling snake oil to the sheep. welcome to asmerica.

There's still part of me tempted to save a few thousand and go for this petit demoiselle.

My ex had the previous model (soft-top) and despite never liking froggy motors before, it was immense fun to drive.
