I gave FFXI the ol' boot this weekend and I've been toying with moving to WoW for some time now, anyways. I'm moving appartments, but after that, I'll be game. So, lemme know the deal with WoW. Are you guys getting an expansion soon?

I can't help you. Never played FF. But I'm having a lot of fun in WoW, and I was pretty burnt out on gaming.

Try the "I converted from FFXI" thread.

As to expansions, Yes, there is one due though I'm not sure when it's coming out.

Fixed...get it right or she'll whip you...yes....THERE.

On the upscale, I still play both FFXI and WoW. WoW takes the cake on ALOT of things, but I'm still <3 with FFXI, I have to be honest.

Course, I didn't touch either of them this whole week playing Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, but that's another story for a whole other thread.

Its kind of like FFXI actually.

Except they removed the fubar'ed economy, made it solo friendly, made parties flexible, actively nail botters, interact and work with the player base, made crafting simple but highly rewarding, made travelling easy, gave you mounts that you can control and go anywhere with, accessible for the casual gamer, you can log on for an hour and feel like you accomplished something.

Even better the game is fun. It is not a chore to play like FFXI. Log on play a bit trust me after playing FFXI and getting burnt out, this is exactly the game you want to be playing.

That sounds a little bit more like what Im looking for. I've been reading some of those threads. It really doesnt look like FFXI is real competition. How sad for those poor lil mooglefu[/u]ckers.

Its nice to play WoW. It deff feels dumbed down compared to FFXI and provided me with a much needed break from FFXI. I got to level 40 as a hunter and felt like I hit a brick wall. I got my mount and all that with out much trouble, I got a nice pet and all that. But after I got on my mount for the first time I just felt all desire to play leave me. I don't know if it was all the pointless quests, the inane grind, or all the soloing. Maybe just too much, too fast.

I was addicted to Engineering/Mining... with several deaths off the beaten path to prove it. The crafting system is so much better than FFXI that its just stupid.

I went back to FFXI and have had some really great experience since comming back, and I've gotten on top of the "fubar'd economy". I guess the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

I have a much tighter knit group of people in FFXI and they are more helpful and I've had a blast with them. I just wish they were nearer my level.

They're both great games in my mind and for different reasons. I'll be back in WoW and continue enjoying both I think. It'll just be a while before I can bring myself to get back into WoW. And a new server, even with you guys, is a bit of a tall order at this point.

Ya, I cancelled my month subscription to FFXI also 2 days ago. I now have to find out emails and SNs of my close in-game friends now. Gonna take a break from gaming though, feel kind of discouraged after FFXI.

i'd look into other games. There's more to MMOs than WoW and FFXI.

EQ2 looks interesting...

if I quit FFXI, i'd like a game where I could spend a lot of time, solo, leveling up and making my character stronger.

Any ideas what would be good? Don't plan on quitting XI, but going on a classic RPG style killing spree could be fun every now and then.

I really hate bringing up or prolonging discussion about FFXI vs WoW in the asylum... so this will be the only thing I post in this thread.

I can easily see why you would describe it as such for many situations... yet I still am in the camp that (especially regarding the economy) no peice of gear is really required other than the basics. It's the community as a whole really, that has pressured so many people to consider themselved underpar without the absolute best things for thier character that creats so much of the needless er... "chores" in the game. It's not even the whole argument of working hard at a game and being rewarded for your sweat and blood... rather, you can succeed and at least play through the story without the absolute best things.

Is it really the fault of the game if people choose to put nearly impossible standards upon themselves?

You know... FFXI can certainly be a chore at times... but I couldn't possibly imagine an MMO that does storyline or... well, companionship for lack of a better term, mcuh better. It's not everyone's cup of tea... that much is certain, yet your reasons for switching are born of nothing but spite and whining really... it's like you got a favorite toy taken away from you and basicly jsut whine about it all the time. I mean... you were possibly the greatest FFXI fanboy on forum=4, yet the second they touch your "solo" job, you pitch a fit. Obviously it's tinged with emotion and regret, but even so. It's not like you fit in with say, Bodhi, in that you thought the game was bland and a chore to play from near the get go, or even looking for an easy way out. The change of heart is really what shocks me the most, not so much a regretful tone of "damn if only they had left my job alone", but rather utter revulsion to all things of the game entirely.

Now, granted, they royally ****** up your job, but was that job the ONLY thing that you played for? The soloing ability I mean? I guess... you've played every final fantasy previous to this one. My question is really... did you REALLY expect a game, that has always been based in parties, and always nearly impossible to solo in, to revolve around solo play? (Excepting the beginnings of each game of course). It's like shooting yourself in the foot.

Oh well... it's just a bit dissapointing to someone who seemed to enjoy it so much, express such hate.

(I play it for the story quite honestly)

I may as well reply to this thread too being that inspired me to try out WoW. Like you I am a ex-FFXI player who needs a MMO fix. I finished downloading the free trial awhile ago and got into the game for a bit. Right off the bat I get the impression it is much easier to solo than anything close to the FF world. I got from level 1 to 6 in about two hours and so far money is “easy” as in it is quick to gain for your expenses in the beginning, but what RPG isn’t like that.

The interface is easy as pie and good controls all around. As of yet people are a tad unhelpful but like anything I’ve wrote so far this could change later. I sent a few tells/whispers to people here and there asking if I could as a question or so (seeing as I downloaded it and don’t have a manual) and for the first 5-6 people I got no response. 7th was the charm.

So far a big PRO for me is gaining XP for the missions you do and getting items unlike FF where all you get is useless crap and fame.

Only CON so far is (unless I cant find the option to change this) your HP/MP(rage) is in a bar form and not in numbers. You can get numbers by hovering your mouse over the bars but I fond it anoying. I want to see exactly how much MP(rage) I have so I can plan accordingly.

Also, if you haven’t already joined the server with the other Asylumites(shadow council) its full, at least when I did my character it was. I was hoping to join or at the very least ask to join the group but no go. God, I just don’t want to have to deal with guild/clan whatever bouncing till I find one that doesn’t have people who use words like “thx, plz, liek, n00b” or whatever other reject bastardizations of the English language again ><

Go to the main menu and then interface options. There's an option somwhere near the top left that allows you to see the HP/MP/rage/energy text.

Not really =P

When I say "a lot for time", I mean months. And with monsters that don't look like a random collection of pixels.

I found, like so many other things, the "Cartoony" graphics of WoW to be a welcome break. It felt like it was suposed to, like I was stepping into that RTS universe, but from a different angle. They stayed true to the style of the series. I could of wished for a few more polygons here and there... but by and large, I'm satisfied.

FFXI does look beautiful at times though.

Another opportunity to pharm but...

I also found parties in WoW to be totally unrewarding. Unless they were from my guild, I would not party. It was easy as a hunter, but I couldn't imagine needing a group. The people that I did group with were generally morons or using me to do somthing for them.

It also suprised me how much it meant to my fellow guildies for me to fly half way across the world and help them out for an hour. I mean, this is like an hour and a half of my time.

In FFXI it was not uncomon to have 5 people drop everything and go on a six hour quest with you, do rank missions, or what have you.

Every time I was in a WoW party with a pack of screaming baboons I died a little inside. Rough approximations of what was said:

"How level am for doing quest now?"
"You do help me?"
"I finish quest first, then maybe you!?"

Or just randomly training mobs back to the party. I had a pick up group to do that freaking undead thing, Bride of the Embalmer. That was painful. After we killed it, some of the party insisted on attacking again, off and on.

Then we went to do Morbent Fell... and the one guy who needed it didn't use the debuff item.

*Sigh*
