I take my stuff to a childhood friend of my mom's who is a CPA. He does it all for us and my mom gets him a nice bottle of wine or somesuch. Although he does send it with a generic invoice from his secretary for something like $50 or $75 which leads me to wonder how much H&R is gouging folks.

I used to do a simple 1040 EZ myself but, post childbirth and home purchase, I figure it's best left in the hands of professionals.

Despite having a rather high income relative to my age, I have yet to pay taxes on anything other than sales.

I laugh at your futility.

I have difficulty keeping up with my checkbook, much less all the paperwork and knowledge-type stuff that I'd have to amass in order to do my own taxes. I have an accountant that has done my taxes since I was a teenager, and now that I have about five jobs, two of which don't deduct taxes, I figure I should let him noodle through it.

For that reason, I actually keep two checking accounts.
One strictly for bills/expenses, the other for fun.

I use excel to keep track of the about 20 bills/expenses (most of which auto-debit,) and only loosely keep track of the other.
Come tax time, it's really easy. I can shoot you a blank of the excel if you like the idea.

Funny. I actually do the same, but consider it a loose system. My sister is a machine who can tell you where any of her accounts are to the dime at any given second.

Being a bit OCD about money, I have 2 savings accounts, 2 regular checking accounts, and four "club" accounts for various purposes. When I was buying my house, the mortgage company had to look at four months worth of bank statements. I'm sure it gave them a headache since I move money between the various accounts nearly daily.

turbo tax works fine.

i use a tax professional myself just for the security. especially in light of the tax cuts over the last 4 years that have swelled my return to over 10,000 bucks. just too big a number for me to feel comfortable i wouldnt ***** it up and end up with a tax evasion fine or something.

but many people i work with use turbo tax every year and have no problems.

i just want a little extra security when dealing with big numbers.
