Not only have I visited another country, but I've bribed a foreign official in said foreign country. Does that mean I'm all worldly and stuff? ;)

'sigh'

I just returned from dropping my daughter off at the airport. I know she was nervous but trying hard not to show it. I know there were a million pieces of sage advice I should have been giving her, but couldn't think of a single one.

Turning around and walking away has got to be up there in the top ten hardest things I've ever done.

I found my car in the drab concrete parking garage, climbed in and cryed for about 10 minutes before I could safely drive away.

Now I'll be on pins and needles until tomorrow morning when I get the phone call that she is safe and sound in Paris.

Nothing worth doing is without a certain bit of fear. Don't overdo the advice, but don't forget to tell her that you love her. You're doing very well. I'm sure she'll have a wonderful time.

Just think of it like this Elinda, she's safer now she out of gun loving America and the experiance will change her for the better.

Nothing like moving to a different culture to show you the pros and cons of where you are from, i find the most hardened against change are those who look upon the next city as being wierd because they have never travelled anywhere or embraced any lifestyle beyond what they are born with

You've made a good choise not standing in her way.

And she wouldn't have listened to any "sage" advice and more likely loved you more because you just hugged her unstead, another good choice.

Seconded. When I left my parents home, it was only to mve a few miles down the road and I still came to eat every Sunday dinner with them, so it wasn't a big deal to them.

When I picked up and moved to Alaska the hardest part about the entire event was not ging into unknown territory with nothing more than the belongings packed on my truck and no prospects upon arrival; it was the final goodbye the morning I left. It's hard to feel manly and adventurous when you have to keep wiping your eyes while you're driving. Fortunately, the tear works dried up after a few miles and I didn't run over any stop signs before it did.

Every move I've made since I came back from AK has placed me within 5 hours of their home so they know I'm not "that far" and it doesn't seem to bother them.

Another whole topic: Anyone been to Riverside, CA? If so, what's the place like?
