So i'm watching T.V. This ad comes on for intel. It's a few people in wafer factory worker suits looking at a large silicon wafer. in the background the announcer starts droneing on about how "intel chips will no longer be stuck in drab little beige boxes doing boring, repetitive tasks, <pause for dramatic effect> because they are now all going in macs!" Anyone else seen this crap yet?

Excuse me? What the **** do they accomplesh by this ad? the last drab little beige box that did menial repetitive tasks that I used was an apple II thank you very much. Sure, some might describe me as rabidly, frotting at the mouth anti-mac, but at least i'm not a chip manufacturer that goes out of its way to snub the loyal customer base that got it where it is now.

I don't know, maybe this is irrational of me, but I'm pissed. I thinkmy next machine might just have an AMD heart. **** you Intel, seriously.

LoL this coming from one of the top mods from a site run on Appple servers? LoL sorry, but I have not seen this add, but I have to admit, i much prefer AMD over Intel any day of the week and AMD kicks butt in all areas of desktop and server side power today anyways and has for the past few years.

I saw that commercial too and wasn't impressed.

After all the bullshi[/b]t I've gone through at work with our Macs, I'll never like those damn things.

So Intel is going in Macs only now? Or they doing both PC and Mac?

Mac can have their flashy advertising/marketing and funky ultra hipster packaging. Ill stick with competent hardware/software not available for iMac users.

My wife switched to a Mac earlier this year. She seems to really like it. I've had to learn it to help her along. I'd probably switch to Mac OSX if they ever release it to work on PC architechture. With this recent announcement of Mac running Intel chips, I think this may be coming soon.

I'd still use Windows for a lot of things, as some things I do will only run on Windows. But I'd use Mac OSX daily if I could.

It was an Apple commercial. Apple didn't show it to Intel until Macworld, shortly before going on live tv. At least thats what the articles have lead me to believe.

I swore off Intel for years, actually. It wasn't until I got my laptop that I went Intel again.

I've always been more of a AMD fanboy, personally, but I hate hate hate hate HATE Macs. Not cause it's the "in thing" with PC geeks...mostly cause I had to service them for a while.

265 extensions and just ONE of them gives you a bomb popup?

Your eject button is a paperclip?

Occationally switching from Ethernet port to Appletalk without warning? Smiley: banghead

I hate those damned things.

I've been running on AMD since, well, I could order my own PC parts. I want to get to upgrade to a Dual core AMD. I would love the same in a laptop... even though it would weigh half a ton after its all said and done. However, if you could run windows on one of those new mac laptops... wooooo, fun times. I love the design of the things, but have no faith for the software. Everything (especially games and such) runs on Windows.

Intel fell behind thinking the "64-bit fad" wouldn't catch on despite the fact the Athlon XP's architecture is far superior to that of the Pentium 4.

Little did they know...

The only reason my main comp right now is Intel based, is that I got a special deal because I was working at CompUSA when I built it. Intel 3.0 GHz P4 w/ HT, Intel Mainboard, and Window XP Pro full version all for $199.00.

I was pricing out a new AMD build when I got the offer from Intel rep. I have always gotten better performance from my AMD machines, but pricing won out over brand loyalty.

Intel will still be making processors for PC architectures; they're just expanding their market to also include processors for Mac architectures.

Why Intel retained such a large marketshare in the PC market, I'll never know - I've used AMD chips in every system I've built in the eight years or so, and prior to that used American Semiconductor's Cyrus chips. I never felt like paying a premium for Intel's brand name given that their competitors could keep pace for substantially less money.

I have to give credit to Apple for finally realizing that IBM has no business being a hardware company. They should have been out of the market a decade ago, when they realized they didn't know how to make desktop computers or hard drives that didn't suck. IBM should stick with their core competancy - being a hell of a research organization, expanding the limits of what computers can do. Get out there and file some more patents, ******** It's what you're best at! Leave the component market to manufacturers that don't suck donkey balls.
