The gutter press broke a story over the weekend that has caused a huge fuss and may very well cost a couple of well meaning people thier jobs and probably careers.

The Story
The British Education minister gave a convicted sex offender full backing to teach in a school when his background was uncovered.
Horrified yet? nice headline huh? strikes fear into the heart of evry parent.
The truth
Said sex offender was never convicted of child abuse, he was fined for indecent assualt of a 15 year old that he married when she turn 16 and they spent 19 years married and had 3 children together.
The "indecent assault" was kissing her it seams, The Minister judged that he ws no threat to children and given his exemplary teaching record other than this 1 offence let him carry on working.
Sure this guy was no angel, but he did everything possible to make up for a mistake he made because of love.
Sometimes i think free speech is just not worth it.

There are people on the sex offender's register (and thereby barred from teaching on List 99) whose crime is dubious.
2 examples.
Guy who was 16 yrs and 2 months who shagged his girlfriend a couple of months before her 16th birthday. Convicted of under-age sex. Is he automatically a Paedo? A teacher 29 years ago had a relationsip with a 15 year old pupil (she was almost 16). They have since married and raised a family. Is he automatically a risk?

to add to this list, here in los angeles, if two consenting adults over the age of 18 get caught having sex in a public place, for example a car on lookout point, and they get arrested an convicted, then they have to register as sex offenders. Pretty weak if you ask me.

the problem was not free speach in that case, but the bastardization of the truth to scare people into reading or watching the story/paper.
sounds to me like that teacher has a liable case against who ever ran that story in that way.

thats ok, in FL if you get caught streaking, you are registerd as a sex offender for indecient exposure... bah, its a colledge kid having fun, get off his *******
oh well, that is what happens when people get over rightious and scared.
