I did this last year.

Traded in my old 1ghz celeron with the poor old 512mb RAM / Geforce 2 128mb / 80gb HD

for a

3.4 ghz P4 / 1gb RAM / 160gb HD and much better graphics card. As well as the sweet sweet 2inch thin monitor. I am still enjoying it. costs me about 50$ a month canadian which is **** all.

Enjoy neph. Hopefully now you wont lag out at the slightest graphic in WoW.

Back when....hrmm....someone around here bought a Dell I was not pleased with mine -at all-. However, I am happy with it again. I bought a 700m last March and things were just going quite badly with it. Three trips by a service guy to my house later (I love that they come to you) I have a new casing w/touchpad, a new LCD screen, a new fan, and a new motherboard. Now I am happy with it again, heh. My laptop may have become crap in a very short amount of time, but at least they fixed it fairly quickly. I say fairly because it -did- take three trips over about two weeks. If that had happened in the middle of the semester I would have been furious. Luckily the motherboard died right after finals.

Yes, i've been sitting on this trash I ordered from dell for three years. Now i'm in the process of building my own. Memory is on the way, now all I need to order is a video and sound card, HD, and a new monitor.

Upstairs is sitting what will hopefully be a very beautiful, fast pc.

Skipped the dual-core, and kinda regret going Intel over AMD but oh well.

As follows:
Pentium 4 3.2 w/ HT
PC3200 OCZ gold Dual DDR 2x1gb 400
CD/DVD combo thingy
(ordering)eVGA e-GeForce 7800GT
(ordering)Audigy 2 ZS
500w ultra x-connect
And lastly haven't decided what size harddrive I want yet.

Now I just have to wait for that pesky W-2 so I can file my taxes to order the rest of the stuff I need. I just hope that after the three things I need yet, I have enough to buy a spiffy new, big monitor.

This is my first time building a pc so it's been a very interesting experience.

I hope for your sake you don't wind up like one of my friends. The first time he decided to build a PC, he bought it piecemeal from several different vendors, trying to get the best price total. Due to backorder and shipping delays and him waiting to order some parts a week later than others.... when he put it together and found out he had a couple of DOA parts, he was screwed on the return policy with the place he bought the video card from. He still got it replaced by the manufacturer but it took over 2 months for that to happen.

Of course this was all going on when EQ was first launched, which was his reason for wanting a PC capable of having more than 8MB onboard video... He wound up buying another video card because he couldn't stand the wait...

Thats what, $4/mo? I could even afford that.

Seriously though, as much of a dork as this makes me, I've been ordering and bulding my own PC's (starting with supervision from my father) since I was 13. It really isn't that hard. Although I think the price savings have diminished over ordering from a big name place... though the customization factor is really great. I can build a much more suitable computer without compromise myself.

I'd be really careful with that Xconnect PSU. I have one and the cords are a bit stiff, so when you bend them they tend to pull from one end or the other and open the shielding. Just be careful, thats all.

Congrats on the new epeen enhancement.

I just bought an XPS 200 for around $1110 with a 19 inch Ultra-sharp display. Only thing disappointing is the 80 gig harddrive. How do you like your's so far? I have had mine for about 1 month and no problems at all yet.

Well, having 2 of the most tricked out rigs in the state here has not brought the ladies running the way a classic 60's vette would, so at very least that aspect of it doesn't carry over too well...

Piece of **** won't be here for another week! It is going to take forever. I'm such a freakin kid....I almost thought about spending $160 so that I didn't have to wait 3-5 extra days for shipping.

I went with the 80gb drive only because they wanted $100-$160 to "upgrade" to a 160gb drive with the same specs. I can buy a 250gb drive for that much when it is on sale.

Besides, I don't really keep anything more than 40gb.
