Annoying someone via the Internet is now a federal crime.

It's no joke. Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity.

This doesn't bode well for, well, just about anyone on the net.

Washington moves to quash Internet Trolls appeals

CBC News

8 months after the arrest of numerous citizens both at home and abroad for their supposedly subversive and slanderous statements over the internet about the Bush Administration, an attempt to bring their indefinite detention outside of US soil to the Supreme court for Habeas Corpus proceedings were crushed.

Bush administration spokesman **** Ferguson stated that these detainees were in a legal grey area and until they are defined that White House is acting within the law. He refused to answer any question about supposed abuses of detainees or moves by the White House to block any and all legislation to define the legal rights of internet trolls.

Buried deep in the new law is Sec. 113, an innocuously titled bit called "Preventing Cyberstalking." It rewrites existing telephone harassment law to prohibit anyone from using the Internet "without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy."

To grease the rails for this idea, Sen. Arlen Specter, a Pennsylvania Republican, and the section's other sponsors slipped it into an unrelated, must-pass bill to fund the Department of Justice. The plan: to make it politically infeasible for politicians to oppose the measure.

GWB did that didn't he?

Specter's the douche, read the whole article.

Granted, but I figured people would get at least a giggle out of it in here, and having "GB" in the title, i.e. alluding to Bush, would get a better reaction than "Sen. Spector, the troll slayer!" would. At least, as far as Assylum trends goes.

And honestly, he's been crucified for similar in here anyways.

*edit*

It was? Crap. I was hoping to be original Smiley: frown

It's no joke. Last Thursday, Kaolian Drakensborn signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your sexuality and home phone number.
Fixed to sound more reasonable
