Shadorelm, you dumbfu[/u]ck please clarify which Congo you are referring to, Republic of the Congo or the Democratic Republic of the Congo .

Because we clearly cannot give aid to the "Peoples front of the Democratic Republic of the Congo", when we are giving aid to the "Peoples front of Republic of Congo", now can we?

Have to guess it's the Democratic Republic of Congo.

There was a time when we would have been the first to offer aid. I don't agree with SR about much (hell, I can't understand his point half the time), but this one I do agree on.

Donate if you can. Oxfam and the International Red Cross are probably good choices, as well as Save the Children.

hmm will america help, what about all of the aid we do send.

read your own quote... lack of INFRASTRUCTURE. hello, that means it is more then a little bit of a challange to get supplies in or word OUT of those areas due to a lack of a proper infrastructure. not much different then the quake a few months back and people are still struggling to get supplies to survive the winter.

why are they still waiting on getting supplies? simple NO ******* INFRASTRUCTURE.

welcome to 3rd world countries. do you expect the USA to go in and BUILD everyones infrstructure.

hell do you even know all that word entails? i doubt you do or you would not states such ignorant questions and be such a basher of the "moral majority"

ya dont like it, then **** off and move on.

$3.3mil in 2006. Down 20% from 2004, by the way. $3.3mil is a half-hour of fighting in Iraq, to put it in perspective. I'm not trying to draw adirect comparison, so don't get your panties all tied up; just showing what we are capable of sinking money into at a very fast clip when we want to.

The entire point of humanitarian aid in these places is to assist people with no infrastructure be it from natural disaster, civil war or whatever. If they all had fresh running water, sanitation, electricity and health services, they really wouldn't be having a disease problem that required humanitarian aid.

Though I suppose the Red Cross could save a bit of money by telling people in a crisis situation that they'll be around once the lights are on, the roads repaired and there's a Holiday Inn with crisp linen for them to stay at Smiley: dubious

Whilst I'm all in favor of humanitarianism on an individual basis, let's face a couple of facts here:

1. The world has too many people on it already. Ecologically, people are not a time bomb, but rather a wilderness fire that's out of control.

2. People are a renewable commodity.

It's sad, yet true. Saving them hastens our own demise.

I happen to think education and birth control are better answers to overpopulation than leaving people to deal with conditions that lead to a truly horrendous 41% infant mortality rate.

I realize that's naive. Hell, it's probably downright stupid.

I'd still rather be me than you.
