In a way, I can agree with Allegory. That guy didn't "deserve" to die. But it sure was the quickest and safest way to get that kid free.
We can't know if there were other ways to free the child, noone knows what happened before, why he took the child hostage. Could be he just killed the rest of the family, who knows?
Judgement calls on videos like these are pretty pointless, if only for lack of context.
