It seems that, when I was younger, Christmas morning couldn't come soon enough. I'd get barely any sleep, then wake at the *** crack of dawn and get ready to open presents.

Now, it seems like Christmas morning can wait. Those presents aren't going anywhere. While it's much nicer to sleep in, it seems like some of the magic of Christmas is lost. Am I the only person that's becoming more and more disappointed with Christmas morning as the years go on?

Mmmm...

My "six hours before we unwrap these gifts" estimate from 2:30am Christmas morning was entirely too optimistic.

Was worth it though for his excitement. He was even all excited to see that Santa left presents for the cat. Speaking of, does anyone else buy presents for the family pets? I probably wouldn't if not for the kid but, growing up, we always got the pets something.

Last year my fiancee got the cat a animated mouse thing. He didn't give a **** about it, and it bothered the hell out of me, so it went away soon.

She didn't bother this year.

I think the Christmas majick is more of greed than anything.

I would wake up so stinkin early and only think about what great new stuff I would be getting.

Don't think it was too majickal, I just think I was a greedy little *******.

I still get the same way around a beautiful girl, but I know its not love just my greedy little christmas mind wanting to unwrap her.

We got our dog a bag of treats and a new collar. We didn't bother to wrap them, though.

I have stockings for my pets. The two cats share one and then the dog has one. This year I noticed for the first time my dog got really excited about it. I had bought him a stuffed animal in the shape of an octopus, which he fell on with vigor, beating the crap out of it. I also bought him a box of treats. They were left on the couch and I watched him three times over the day hop up, paw out a treat, grab it and run off to snack on it. He'd come back for more when he finished it. The whole day he kept coming up to me with his little butt wiggling in excitement and I swear he was smiling at me. Pugs have the most expressive faces.
The cats got a few small gifts filled with catnip which they slobbered over all day. I'd say the pets enjoyed Christmas almost as much as our son did

I think some of the magic is there, and in ways it's different/better. When I was young I didn't understand that giving gifts was also a source of enjoyment. I do argree though. Sleeping in has become a lot more important to me.

I used to get my dog a gift and got my cat one every year except this one (she's 11). Wouldn't you know it, this year as we were all opening gifts, she meowed just like does when she's out of food and I had to go get her treats. She then promptly went to sleep under the tree.

Maybe next year I'll try again.

As for me, I lost some of the 'ol Christmas magic a few years back. Too much work on my end to really enjoy, since I end up picking up a lot of the slack for my bah-humbug relatives. I think I'd have more fun if someone else did all the Christmas lists, wrapping, cooking, washing, etc. I still love the idea behind the Holiday, spending time with family, etc. but it's been a while since I got reeeeeaaallly excited about opening any of my gifts, per se.

Christmas came and went this year and we hardly noticed. My wife and I are 33 and 31 respectively and despite opening gifts at 5:30 in the morning with her nieces, it just didn't feel the same anymore...

We did buy our two dogs presents but we are saving for a house so there were no big gifts between us.

The cat gets to shred the wrapping paper and chase paper-and-ribbon balls around on the hardwood floor. Yowzer!

I actually do have a stocking for him, a tiny little one. Holds one new catnip mouse.
