Why? It gives me yet another excuse to eat a lot, and get drunk with my family while playing Pictionary.

I love a couple things about Christmas:

It usually involves me eating a well-cooked meal.
It shows many people's true colors through behavior.
It generally results in my family at least attempting to get along for a day or two and not **** me off.
It provides an excuse to call people I forget to call. >.>

I love the winter solstice because the navy gives me two weeks off work every year to spend time with my family, this year they gave me 3 weeks off so i love it even more.

An excuse to cook a roast duck also helps but is secondary to the time off.

I do love me some roast duck. So far, it's just been a breakfast of eggs and toaster swirl pastrie thingies though. Lunch/dinner at my mom's later on. I did actually make ham and some veggies for dinner last night, thinking we should eat something proper for Christmas Eve.

We had smoked pheasant with fennel doused in cream and cheese, wild rice, and rolls for dinner last night, followed by home made mango creme brulee. Appetizer was slow cooked meatballs marinated in a combo of bone suckin' sauce and mustard. Mmm mmm good

Tonight, we're having a rack of lamb. I do so love the holiday food.

My siblings and I don't get together all that often, and when we do there's always a lot of laughter. The feast is always good, I don't have to drive too far, and this year we have a new baby in the family.

I've been a little disinterested in the last few years, but this is a very good year.

My neice and nephew are the focal point of every Christmas since they were born, so it's a lot of work but I consider it worth it. I do love the whole vibe of laying around in my PJs on Christmas Day ******** around with stuff, eating at random intervals and pointlessly watching TV marathons. The older we get, the more I value my siblings and my family.

I love having my own family to celebrate with and not having to worry about whether my parents are going to be fighting later that day and ruining everything. And I love surprising hubby with gifts he wants when I had him convinced I was only going to get him clothes.

I'm not too happy about the food this year because at my last check-up I had gained 5 pounds in 1 1/2 weeks, zomg. I've packed on a total of 42 so far. *sob*

Still waiting for hubby to wake up to open gifts! Boo!!

He keeps waking up and saying, "I'm ready!" then going back to sleep. I think I'll implement the kicking thing next time he does that.

Next year, wait until 8 o'clock on the dot and give him the "pots and pans" treatment. He'll get out of bed in a hurry. You might not get to unwrap your "special present" later that night though.
