Huge Cash prize on RadioFollow

#1 Dec 17 2005 at 5:44 PM Rating: Excellent
I listen to Magic FM when travelling on my tedious drives around the outskirts of london. It plays old classics and is really soothing when stuck in traffic.

They have a phone in competition which keeps repeating. Basically they sample 3 celebrity voices to say "Magic 105.4". Callers ring in and pay 25 pence for a chance to guess the 3 famouspeople. The prize fund increases 100 pounds per try every hour of the working day.
Now normally the 3 voices are guessed after a few thousand pounds of prize fund builds and maybe a week of calling. The radio station keeps a record of old guesses and tells new callers how many of the 3 voices they have right.
However .. the current voices have people stumped and the prize pool is 83 thousand pounds. So 830 attempts and no correct guess, the 3rd voice is proving really hard to guess.

83 thousand pounds is a LOT of money to win on a radio phone in.

Is this the largest prize on radio ever?

We've got something like that in Australia right now on a station called Nova. It's called "The Nova Ho's" and is a competition they usually run at Christmas. Five celebraties say "Ho" and you need to guess them in the right order. The prize however doesn't keep going up, it's stuck at 5000 AUD (3,719.27 USD).
