Sirius = Stern

XM = Opie & Anthony.

Opie & Anthony > Howard Stern.

I subscribe to XM.

This would be great and all, if I only cared about your opinion.

Music > all that crap.

Agreed, however most music played on the radio is absolute crap. If it isn't crap it's played out, or otherwise known as, Fried Crispy. The same CD's get old too. Howard was a nice occasional change of pace.

I've always loved the Howard Stern show and hated how he was always made the FCC's scapegoat of choice. Course, that's not to say he didn't put himself in that position more than a few times.

The only thing that makes me think twice about jumping on the Sirius bandwagon (much less sat. radio itself) is how long will he be edgy when his barriers have been lifted?

Stern was cool b/c he was rebelling. Much like smoking's cool until you turn 18, or drinking's cool till you turn 21. Granted, it's probably going to be great to hear Stern unleashed for a good year, maybe two. But how cool is really going to be once it's the norm for his show?

How long is it going to be before it's just the same old dick and fart jokes just uncencored?

Looks like i'm in the minority here, but i've always found Stern to be an obnoxious prick. I've never found people who are offensive simply because it sells to be funny. Or even people who are offensive simply for the sake of being offensive. It's the same reason that I think that Carlos Mencia guy is an idiot, when he thinks he's stumbled onto the holy grail of honest comedy.

I've never seen it that way. I think he just acts that way because there's an audience for it, so that's how he makes his money. And while it may be his true personality (which is just even sadder, if you ask me) he's just playing to that audience.

Now, I'm no fan of the politically correct movement at all. In fact, I often wholly object to it. But Stern is legitimately offensive to a whole slew of groups and people.

That's of course, not to say that he should be censored. He's got a right to say whatever he wants to say, and I perfectly understand that he's got an audience that likes him, and that's why he's on the air.

But that doesn't mean that I can't consider him to be a creepy jackass, or feel that his listeners lack any sense of taste.

I subscribed to XM for a while and cancelled because there was nothing I really cared to hear. This was 2 years ago so things may have changed but the way I think of it is this:

XM - Plays a bunch of junk you have never heard before. If you are looking to discover new things, this is for you.
Sirius - Plays more stuff that you are probably familiar with. This can be good and bad.

we got ours abotu a year ago, I like the roadie just because I can take it out of one car and move it to another...or any other car Im travelling in. It has alot of stuff you have heard....our neighbor has sirius and I think we have more choices then they do. I like tuning into alot of the news type channels when Im travelling..talk shows like stern make long drives more enjoyable...also like that Coast to Coast spook show..

thank God he is gone. now his followers will have to pay to see his crap, just as stern made us pay by having to listen to it on open airwaves.

raise your hand if the world "lesbian" makes you giggle. you are a stern fan.

raise your hand if listening to a strippers point of view on ANYTHING makes you feel like you learned something. you are a stern fan.

stern was funny for about 15 minutes........25 years ago.

I dunno kiddo... He would ask some of the hottest celebrities some pretty fucked up shit.

Do you shave your bush?
Do you like ****?
Will you show your tits?

Just plain tasteless crap I admit. The enjoyment was in listening to the high powered celebs stutter, choke, and squirm.

Sometimes the well to do, forget they too have to wipe.

I agree with jester in that some of the appeal will go with the removal of the censorship. To be honest, I don't see much of a future for Howard on satelite. His niche was with the A.M. drive time, and to a captive audience.

I'm just gonna chime in to pharm and say that I really don't like talk radio that well. I have absolutely no attention span, so I need music. Listening to talk radio would mean I'd have to concentrate... and...

... huh. What was I saying?

Stern was a breath of fresh air.

Emphasis on 'was'.

He got boring ten or more years ago.

Welcome to the past, Nostalgia ain't what it used to be etc etc.

That's what a lot of us thought about cable TV at first too. I pay for online radio right now, but I may get Sirrius or XM at some point.

If you like the old Stern, I would suggest Opie and Anthony on XM. Personally, I wouldn't buy the roady 2, it's a little to stationary for my tastes. I would save up and get an XM to go device.

The $13 a month is nothing once you realize how great satalite radio is.

my biggest problem with his show is my children. they have radios. they are not ready to hear what some stripper feels about **** sex while her girlfriend eats her out.

for that type of content to be seen as mainstream is paramount to negligence.

my second biggest problem with stern is, i stoped laughing at that stupid crap when i graduated high school.

he is right where he belongs now. in a place where no one will have to be sujected to his ....whatever....by accident.

the roadie 2 isnt the stationary one..you can dock it in your house and i believe they have a portable dock for it now to (so it becomes a walkman)
Yeah Opie & Anthony are awesome!

I would love to have satellite radio in my car. In the car I used to have, the CD player was doing odd things and I was looking into a deck that had satelitte radio in it, I just needed to purchase the antenna. Now my car has a CD player that I really don't want to part with, so I am not sure how I would set it up. I don't know if I want a separate satellite radio thing in my car. What do they do, mount it to the dash or something? That is what my brother does with his Ipod, and he has cables that have to go into the back of his deck; I think that looks ugly in the car.

When satellite first became a big thing I listened to it in a Best Buy and was really disappointed by the "soul" station. It turned me off of the idea for a while, but I still think it would be a cool thing to have.

The ROadie 2, you dont need an antenna. It has this magnet/reciever that you just pop on your roof or wherever and in the inside you can clip the other piece (channel changer etc) anywhere you like, I have mine clipped to an airvent. I switch it in and out of every car I'm in. The dockign station is a little pricey but the unit itself for radio is cheap - like I said in Cali it was 29.99 so it might even be cheaper where you're at.
All you need is a ciggarette lighter outlet in your car and you are ready to go.

I'm searching the deepest recesses of my heart to find the slightest feeling of sorrow that Howard Stern's show is going off the air.

Nope. None.

I could care less about Stern. Used to tune in to see who his guest(s) were. Unless it was someone I was interested in hear, I'd be flipping to another station. I never really thought he was all that funny to begin with.
