I got hooked into Stern years ago by an ex-boyfriend, and I've since hooked other people in. It's not that I agree with how he handles subjects, his political beliefs or his subject matter all the time, but I do admire his straight-forwardness and candor. That goes a long way with me. In any case, I had a lot of errands to run today and I jumped out of bed and forgot to listen to the last show. I tuned in just in time to hear him read his last on-air commercial, which he burped on. Dirt.

Anyone hear it? I am toying with the idea of Sirius, but I'd have to check out the channel lineup.

get XM - the Roadie 2 is only 29.99 at Walmart (I got it before it was that cheap)and it really is worth it. The Comedy Channel on its great (They have a clean one & an Adult) They have old radio shows and a really huge selection of music.

Statement:
"I think I'm going to get an XboX 360 because I really want to play Perfect Dark Zero." Any thoughts?

Suggestion:
"You should get a Playstation 2. It's only $149 at Wal-Mart and Tony Hawk Proskater 17 Underground is one of the greatest games ever!"

See any problems with this?

I subscribed to XM for a while and cancelled because there was nothing I really cared to hear. This was 2 years ago so things may have changed but the way I think of it is this:

XM - Plays a bunch of junk you have never heard before. If you are looking to discover new things, this is for you.
Sirius - Plays more stuff that you are probably familiar with. This can be good and bad.

When I had XM, even the holiday channel was foreign to me. They would devote a channel to playing Christmas music and most of it was songs I had never heard before. This may have changed though, it has been a while.

My wife has listened to Sirius in her friend's vehicle and she said it is a lot better about playing more stuff that she is familiar with and not playing the same songs over and over. With XM, she was typically in the car at the same times of the day and if she listened to the same station (Lucy) she would hear the same songs at the same times every day.

There's a rebate on it that makes it $30 through Christmas, but I guess what irks me is the $13/month subscription rate and the fact that I have to start paying for all kinds of things that were free. I'll probably give the Junkies a fair shake and hold my peace.

Even though I have an XM subscription, I also looked into Sirius and they were both nearly identical in programming selection, except for few differences. So it ended up coming down to price for a year subscription for me and XM was cheaper, and I love it.

I like having the nearly overwhelming selection of channels covering everything from electronic/dance to old school r&b to hip/hop to country to pop to oldies channels to country to reggae.

Good God there's even a "E" channel like you get on cable, not that I would even bother to listen to it! It's like regular radio, only better with far more choices and no commercials for auto-dealerships, strip-clubs or "male-stamina-enhancement" pills, which is nice. Best of all it less than 50 cents a day, which is less than the price of most daily newspapers, personally I think you would like it.

I should add that when I had XM it was before they went commercial free and I was paying the subscription fee and listening to commercials. That was kind of a downer.

I understand that has changed now though, at least for the music channels.

Joph have you never heard the adverts that run on 105.9WCKG during Stern's show or Mancow, that's pretty much all there is, that and shady mortgage companies.

Please tell me you don't listen to WBBM-NEWSRADIO all day!!!

With Stern sucking shit the last 5-6 years, is that such a bad thing? Oh I know, I can't wait to listen to a girl ********** on the radio every night or the crackwhore roundtable. Money well spent I say.

XM.

I wonder where you get your facts. It is a well known fact that crackwhores sit at a square table with their pimp at one end and the top crackwhore at the other. A round table would imply equality among crackwhores.

I listened to the second half of the show this morning on the way into work. I'll miss the show. Although, much like yourself, I am contemplating getting Sirius. He’s of course saying that the next five years will be awesome again. The last couple of years slipped due to FCC harassment. I’m guessing he may even go a little overboard. It could be fun.

Crackwhores don't have pimps. You of all people should know that

I'm a long time listener off and on since my college days in the 80's (I know, I'm old). It was a great last show, the whole week was great with Jackie the Jokeman on yesterday as well.

I honestly didn't think my wife would view Satellite radio as a reasonable expense, but I was surprised she suggested it - it actually makes sense, since we live out in the boonies and lose half of the Baltimore/Washington stations (like the one Howard was just on) when we hit our city limits (Westminster, MD).

I heard Sirius had decent sports coverage as well - I wonder if we'll be able to pick up some SF Giants baseball games...

So yeah, after Christmas, we'll be looking into it. In the meantime, we'll give the Junkies a listen as well until we get Sirius.

WLS-890 AM for talk radio. Usually Roe Conn's afternoon show. Even then, I don't really go for "shows" that much, AM or FM since I only listen while driving and invaribly wind up with 70% commercials and am leaving the car as soon as they get into something good.

FM band is usually WXRT, The Drive, 99.9, Jack-FM or the station that plays out of North Central College in Naperville. None of which are trying to sell me on strip clubs and cock salves. The last time I turned on WCKG, they were still playing Rush, Led Zepplin and the Alan Parson Project.

Do you remember the "All 80's" station from about five years back? They used to constantly play a commerical for some herbal supplement snake oil. It was Brother A telling Brother B how hot Bro B's wife was and how much Bro A loved the look of her tits and ***. That
was pretty friggin' creepy at 8:00am while driving to work.

I have listened to Stern and I have listened to Opie & Anthony.

Sirius = Stern

XM = Opie & Anthony.

Opie & Anthony > Howard Stern.

I subscribe to XM.

p.s The Junkies come in a close third behind Stern. Just can't them where I live in VA.

I listened to a good portion of the last show today on 92.3 K Rock out of NY.

They actually cut out parts of his goodbye speech? It sure sounded that way.

Anyway, I wasn't a loyal fan but I have listened off and on throughout the years and he will be missed.

Like Stern said, Last of a dying breed.
