Chicago Bar serves up $950 drink

Quote:
Nobody has ordered the drink without the ruby yet. Gugni figures he would charge around 120 or 130 dollars for a gem-less Ruby Red, to cover the cost of uncorking the champagne.

But even at that price, they won't get the whole bottle - they just get a splash.

To make a Red Ruby, stir together these ingredients (the gemstone is optional):

- 1.5 ounces Grey Goose L'Orange vodka

- 0.5 ounce Hpnotiq cognac

- 0.5 ounce orange juice

- 0.25 ounce Pama (pomegranate) liqueur

- a splash Dom Perignon champagne

That drink sounds good, but I can make some for far cheaper and throw in some of my bedazzler gems.

I'm not a champagne drinker, but is this even reasonable at all? Seems that if you really have to charge 120-130 just for uncorking the bottle something is wrong with the whole champagne process?

I am assuming that if you uncork the bottle that means pretty much the whole bottle has to be used soon or wasted?

Can't they use those little fizz saver things you can put on coke bottles? Smiley: jester

I think the whole point is just to show how much you don't care about your money.

The fizz saver things don't work well with champange.

It can be kept for a short amount of time in the fridge, but the general rule is, "if you open it you must consume it."

Well, count me in for champagne reform then!

That was a terrible pun even by my own low standards.

Hrm.

- 1.5 ounces Grey Goose L'Orange vodka

- 0.5 ounce Hpnotiq cognac

- 0.5 ounce orange juice

- 0.25 ounce Pama (pomegranate) liqueur

- a splash Sparkling White Grape Juice

Works for me. I might cut out the vodka, as well. Doesn't agree with me.

I think the funniest part about the drink is the profit this guy makes. To buy 1 bottle of each of the ingredients as stated, would cost about $300. That would easily make about 35ish drinks. Sell it out of your basement for $10 a drink and you still turn a profit. Smiley: rolleyes

That reminds me of those hamburgers that some restaurants sell for like $50-100 because of the Kobe beef. Give me Carl's Jrs. $6 burger.

For $950, I could buy 475 bottles of one of the best beers ever made, Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout. Fuck rubies and the swill they're soaked in.

To someone who regularily dines on spaghetti-o's and frozen pizza, you're probably right.

A kobe Beef hamburger priced @ 50 dollars is pricey. Expect to pay over 100 bucks for a Kobe Beef steak in Vegas. You can find Kobe Beef in local meet markets though for much better prices. Kobe Beef is the best steak I have ever had.
