Who is the ****** responsible for calling delays?Follow

#1 Dec 16 2005 at 11:13 AM Rating: Default
So whoever the **** decides to call the delays in HACC (Harrisburg Area Community College) needs a good *** raping. It rained/iced last night and this morning there was a decent layer of ice on everything. I’m heading to my final when I hit a patch of ice on the highway and slam into a wall of dirt and snow. My car swerved in 2 lanes made a 360 and hit this thing going ~30-40. Someone up there likes me because all that happened to me was something in my car is making a funny noise but that’s it. Not so for the poor lady somewhere behind me. I look in my rear view after hitting the wall and facing the wrong direction and see a SUV hit the same thing and take out a few lines on a power pole and land on its side. Checking first for injuries I was about to call 911 when I see someone who stopped doing just that. I get out and go to check the lady but a passing fire/EMT was already as was a officer.

I get turned away and having no injuries and not real damage to my car me and the other people who stopped left. I hear on the radio as im driving there are 30+ accidents all over and driving my car (slowly) asking myself why the **** didn’t anyone call a delay? You’d think when he went to his car that morning and almost (or did) fall on his *** because of all the ICE he would have maybe had a clue it might have been dangerous driving conditions.

So I ask, what is the responsibility of the school district/college to say when it’s not safe to be traveling to class? HACC is notorious for never calling off/delays but today was ********* Who are these people and why do they have their head so far up their ***?

Some people are followers.

The rest are just assbags.

I think the main issue with college is that if class is held and not cancelled then you're behind, but that's why it's important to have a couple of people you can borrow notes from and a good handle on your syllabus. Missing class is no fun, but niether's dying. Make a decision on your own by watching weather reports and the like. Don't make others responsible for what ultimately is your decision and no one else's.

I could, but I had thought they would have had the main roads/highways salted and de-iced to a reasonable extent before I headed out. My street isn’t a good indicator of what the rest of the roads conditions are. As for weather or not I could tell, it was a final and I couldn’t take the chance of seeing if a “I cant make it in because its dangerous” would fly.

Would be nice if it had been just a class he could afford to miss, but it was his Final.

Other then the water damage we had from a leak over some window frames, we luck out here south of you. We got lots of rain but little of any of it seem to have stuck around as ice. After all the flack the school system had years ago, though I wouldn't be surpised they decided to close schools for the day, yesterday and now kids are stuck home without any snow to play in.

Well then quit blaming the people who call delays and be proactive. Start watching the news. They regularly include the state of the roads in the traffic report.

Most of our grade schools got the delay but not the college. It’s like 2 very different worlds, in HS we got off 2 years ago (?) For that hurricane that swept up the coast. The called off the night before fearing high winds but we all woke up to a whole lot of nothing and free day to ***** around with. In college the world seriously needs to be about to end before the start to consider off time. Usually I just skip if the weather is bad but that plan goes “poof” for tests/finals

Most colleges don't close because their students are mostly of adult age.

By the time you are in college you are expected to be able to make your way into school.

Public schools close becuase the majority of students get their by bus. The buses are paid for by the schools, therefore it is the school's responsibility to make sure they can arrive safley. If there is less than ideal condidtions they will cancel school.

Look at college like work. I can't ***** if they don't cancel work because of bad roads, I still have to come in and do my shift.

Sucks that you have to drive when the conditions are like that, I know. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and realize that it isn't the schools fault that the roads are bad.

Most professors at my school would understand and make accomodations for students provided they called ahead of time and discuessed the situation with them.

That makes sense, I guess it is there job to prepare you for your future as a whatever the hell your there for. I guess that’s a up side to being a grade school teacher then :)

I was going to say that is they were never going to call off and trying to prepare you for real work then what’s the point to even having a system to call off. But I guess there has to be some middle ground from grade school to work force

I do both. Hell, the roads don't even need to be bad.

Yeah, I would have braved the ice for my final, without question. Luckily my final for today was cancelled/moved.

You do have a syllabus, and it has the teachers name and number on it. Call your teacher ahead of time. Ask if he's going to postpone the final. If he does postpone it you don't have to drive on the bad roads. If he's not then let him know you might be late due to weather and get an extension. It's up to you to make decisions now. You are in college, not elementary.

American kids are such pussies. Smiley: oyvey

When I was a kid in grade 1, I walked 2 miles through 3 feet of snow, with 20mph winds to get to the school just to find out it was cancelled. So I lit up a smoke, took a sit down then marched my *** back home again. The next day we only had 2 feet of snow, so school was on. (I lived in the country so the roads were not plowed often. You try walking to school through snow that is as deep as you are tall!)

Kids these days.

Now that is some scary stuff gramps, tell us some more stories!

That is living in Texas for you, granted a drizzle of rain is dangerous in my neck of the woods. Trucks on wet roads = hazardous to anyone's health. Not to mention the first sign of ice/sleet and there are 10 car wrecks within 15 minutes ...

So I made a booboo, I'm sure you know what I meant. Fixed anyways.

Speaking of trucks on wet roads.. we have wet and frozen roads here too. You know what the difference is? People actually know how to drive here. Although sometimes I do wonder.

You should try renting a car in Montreal sometime and drive from one end of the city to the other. If you can make it in one piece...

So you got in an accident because you can't drive, you caused the woman behind you to crash as well, and you're trying to pass the blame off on someone else.

Got it.

No guns allowed in your vehicle in Canada. Tell you what, you come up here and I'll race you in a snowstorm. Loser buys the winner a Tim's coffee and donut.

Did I mention studded tires are also illegal? Smiley: sly

So ice on the road makes it okay to drive too fast and then blame some school official for not delaying finals?

So ice on the road makes it ok to blame him for every single wreck that occurs?

I never said it wasn't his fault for having his OWN accident, but I fail to see how him driving into a snowbank had any affect on the person behind him losing control of their vehicle when they hit the same patch of ice.

I'm assuming his car swerving across 2 lanes and doing a 360 might have affected the cars behind him. He didn't really make it clear in his description.

Even if not, he's still shifting blame when he could have just (a) driven slower, or (b) said, "Well that's unfortunate. Accidents suck!"

And a wreck that occurs makes it okay to blame the school official?
