I know it keeps you up at night. Your every waking moment is spent with that same question, that constant pondering that eats away at your soul: will my ipod survive being washed and dried. Let your unforgiving contemplation be silenced forever. The resounding answer to that question is: not in a million years.

But, you will not be left without some wondrous gifts from the passing of the ipod. All of your clothes will have a lovely melted plastic smell. Your ipod headphone, should they have gone on the journey with the 'pod, will be a congealed ball of polymers, one of which rivals the twisted mass of a Rorschach test.

A new question may also form, such as 'Where did the USB connector cover go?'. Did it completely vaporize in the heat of the dryer, or did it fall prey to the same goblins and gnomes that steal your socks.

You can also gaze at the marvel that is the remains of your once
beloved 'pod. The dazzle of beholding the nice smoothed, warped
surfaces, the splendour of the 'on' switch that is now shaped like a peanut, or, and this is the pinnacle, the obstinate way that all the control buttons seem to unaffected, perhaps even cleaner.

But please, while enjoying your new found freedom from that question which, up until this point, had plagued you, have a moment of silence for those who have gone before you.

I now have an excuse to replace the beloved Shuffle with a Nano.

Ceremonies will be held this Sunday; please dress appropriately.

The washing was unintentional, btw.

maybe you should chain your new Nano to an old hubcap like dirty gas stations do, to avoid this problem in the future.

Thank God I put mine in my trunk and forgot I owned it.

Forgetting it in the S.O.'s car for a couple of weeks had that effect.

get a ZEN.

only fools by I-Pods.

i bought the 6 gig zen.
it will record with a built in mic.
it has a fm tunner which you can also record from with the push of a button.
it will hold up to 15,000 songs profided they are 4 minutes long or less, and are in a compressed format like mp3 and not a recording.
you can use it with any download site and not just the i-pod site. you can use the i-pod site too.
you do not need to activate it or buy a subscription to any one.
you can transfer music from zen to zen, zen to anything really.
it has its own softwear, but works with anyhting, for instance, my windows media player works well with it.
it has a rechargable 12 hour battery.
it has a REPLACEABLE batter, try that with an i-pod.
you can download computer files for trasnfer with it.

the 8 gig zen has a color display and will hold photos, display them, transfer them via usb.

the i-pod will, for more money, and a suscription, transfer to other i-pods, or download from i-pod aproved IE, pay for music, sites. the zen will down load anything from any where.

stick a camera on that puppy, and you would have the perfect media devise.

i-pods are by by. kind of like TIVO for idiots who havent figured out you can do the same thing without a suscription with a video card and some softwear hooked to your computer.

subscribe that you i-pod fools.

How will people know how cool you are if you don't carry around an iPod.

How many people to hear ask you, "Does he have a Creative Zen player with built in FM tunner?"

My guess is none.

I've been invited so many black tie affairs soley becuase I carry my iPod everywhere I go. People KNOW that I mean business when it comes to livin' fancy.

Not to mention I also have an Airport Extreme. It's almost TOO awesome. I can't even believe that I mentioned that. I hope my Airport Extreme doesn't shun my existence tonight.

I'm sorry Airport Extreme.

I didn't even know what "Zen" was of which he was speaking.

But, I don't need an FM tuner. I haven't listened to the FM band for almost 5 years now. My Shuffle was perfect because it did everything I wanted - it was perfect for the gym and running. The full iPod drains down as the HD doesn't like all the bouncing around when I'm running. I have to stop - I am getting teary eyed. ;-)

Many is the night since buying an iPod that U2 has stopped by my place for pizza and foosball. Then Bono gets into talking about the plight of starving children in developing countries for hours.

I'm thinking of getting one of those Zen thingies.

Good. I'm glad he is bugging you now. He gets annoying after a while.

Ask him about Berlin in '85 if you want to hear a LONG story.

Zen micro, by creative.

it is the future of mp3 and portable digital storage devices. music is only one of its usefull functions. file transfers, recording lectures, photo transfers, the higher end models will record and play dvd files too.

no subscriptions.

it is the perfect portable storage media. the 6 gig zen, the one i have, is just a bit bigger than a tic-tac box. it will fit inside of an altoid box, earphones and all. the 8 gig one has a color display, but im too cheap to pay the extra 50 bucks. and besides, untill i can take a picture with it, i dont see the point of storing photos in it. my digital camera works just fine for that.

no activation. no subscriptions. no limitations. coarse, no black tie invites, or has been rock stars freeloading on you either, but cant have everything.

Haha! Thanks for the info, although I will probably get a Nano, since I have connections at Apple. But, I will look into the Zen.

Trading Bono in for Richard Gere?

I'm starting to have all sorts of theories about your inner workings, Jophiel. And they're all a little creepy. Smiley: frown

I don't pay a subscription for my iPod.

Noone pays for a subscription to iPod, you just pay for the music you want to purchase from iTunes, same if you owned a Zen and bought music from Napster.

Want to download music via P2P and put it on the iPod, go ahead...works just fine, load them on the iPod in mp3 format, it'll play it.

I like my iPod because the radio in my car controls it. I plug it in, leave it in the glove box and I'm good to go.

I've also not been able to find a player who's interface I like as well as the iPod's.

I have a standard 20 gig...have almost my entire CD library on there. Perfect for me. The only complaint I have is the fact that it scrathes so easy.

iPod WAS the start of the mp3 player craze. Others will come along and be better i'm sure, but I will use my iPod until it dies, or I do, whichever comes first.

you can use it with any download site and not just the i-pod site. you can use the i-pod site too.

you can transfer music from zen to zen, zen to anything really.

-- can't do this with iPod without adding on other software, or downloading a shareware app. A nice feature, one that I might use sometimes.

it has its own softwear, but works with anyhting, for instance,
my windows media player works well with it.

it has a rechargable 12 hour battery.
--so does iPod

it has a REPLACEABLE batter, try that with an i-pod.
--that is a nice feature. I have replaced my cover, and hence I could replace the battery, but it's not easy.

you can download computer files for trasnfer with it.
-iPod does this too.

Out of all of those "arguing" points, only two are things that are valid. I'm not an iPod fanboi or anything, but at least get your info straight before you start arguing a point.

IPods have the new kit you buy at BestBuy where you can link them to your radio. Now that is like a GIFT OF GOD. All those songs in my car when I want to hear them.. HMMM maybe ill be heading to bestbuy after work.
#21 Dec 16 2005 at 1:28 PM Rating: Good
Are you talking about the FM modulator, or a line-in connection.

The modultor's can be finicky is some cars. Sometimes they work fine, other times they are very staticy. My guess is it depends on both attena placement of the car, and the amount of outside interference.

Most aftermarket radio manufactures are now offering iPod control in their head units. Check out Alpine and Kenwood and Best Buy. I ended up switching to that and absolutley love it.

I can control the iPod with my radio, leaving the iPod locked in the glove box. It also displays song/artist information on the radio's screen, which is kind of nice.

yeah I wired my last car so I could just plug the ipod in and control everything from the stereo.

I need to do the same with my Jeep. Installing the XM was enough for now. =P

I have a 3rd Gen iPod; only my Shuffle had an untimely end.

Yeah I guess so, im trying to find it on bestbuy web page but i dont see it anymore. I thought it allowed you to connect your ipod to your fm radio through a invisible connection.

There are a ton of different models of them. They are nothing new. It's the lowest quality connection, sound wise, that you can get, but convient if you lease a vehicle or do lots of rentals.

If it's your own car, might want to check into some sort of Auxilary connection kit that is offered for some vehicles. The kit allows you to directly connect your iPod for a nice, reliable, high quality connection.
