HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (AP) - A police officer has been charged with using a Taser on his partner during an argument over whether they should stop for a soft drink.

Ronald Dupuis, 32, was charged Wednesday with assault and could face up to three months in jail if convicted. The six-year member of the force was fired after the Nov. 3 incident.
Dupuis and partner Prema Graham began arguing after Dupuis demanded she stop their car at a store so he could buy a soft drink, according to a police report.

The two then struggled over the steering wheel, and Dupuis hit her leg with his department-issued Taser, the report said. She was not seriously hurt.

This could also mean that they need smarter cops in Michigan...

Good point, still...you'd think that a police officer would be smart enough to both not taser their partner and to not try and take control of the car from their partner.

He tasered her because she was askin' for it. Someone saw them and she had to make up something to cover her ***. Kinky *****.

The sad part is he was actually defending himself from Graham trying to force herself on him sexually. But the department knew that if they fired her, they would face sexual harassment charges and a lawsuit. So they fired poor Ronald in stead, since he was French anyways.

tasers are not the problem. infact, better tasers than pistols.

its like the police officer who tasered a 68 year old granmother a couple weeks ago. she had no weapon. my 7 year old could have whipped her butt.

police are trained to look out for themselves first, you second. and they are trained to use overwhelming force to do it, before putting theri life at risk. bottom line, they are trained to treat you like garbage first, sort out the details later.

3 years ago there was a story in california where a homeless man was drowing in the river. "5" police cars were sitting on the bridge watching, waiting for the police dive team to show up.

a woman stoped her car behind them to see what was happening, saw what was happening, walked to the end of the bridge adn down to the river with the police telling her to stop, jumed in teh water, pulled the man out, walked back to her car and left.

the whole thing was caught on video tape from another motorist.

"5" cops couldnt accomplish what a motehr in a mini van did without any training.

pitifull.

cops are good for cleaning up a mess after it happens, that is about all. when it is happening you are on your own pretty much. call a cop when it is happening, and it will get worse, not better, before it is over.

like the wheelchair bound unarmed theif wheeling away from a shoplifting, shot in the back by a cop for not stopping.

the problem is not the tools we issue to police, the problem is their training, and the quality of individuals we hire to do the job.

Um. That's because the woman is protected from lawsuits by various incarnations of "good samaritan" laws. A private citizen may attempt to help someone and if things don't work out, they can't be held to blame (assuming they dind't obviously intend to make things worse). The police don't get such protection. If they attempt a rescue and someone is hurt in the process, then they and the department can be sued.

Silly? Yeah. But it's the world we live in.

A similar situation occured in a town just north of me. A man had jumped in a river near a local watering hole despite numerous signs advising against such activity. Of course he proceeded to try and drown himself while a few police officers stood on the bank waiting for the rescue team. A good samaritan jumped in to save the guy, ignoring police orders to return to the bank. He swam over to the guy grabbed him, pulled him back to shore and was then handcuffed and placed in the back of the police car. He ended up spending the weekend in jail for his troubles if I remember correctly.

like i said. the heros we hire to protect us are trined to protect themselves first....at our expense if necessary.

it would take more than the threat of a lawsuit from a homeless man to make me sit there on my **** and watch someone drown.

but that is just me. they are TRAINED to sit and watch you drown while they wait for experts. they are TRAINED to use overwhelming force on the slightest incident to protect THEMSELVES first, solve the problem later.

it is the training and the quality of the individual where the problem lies. like the 11 year old kid who was shot to death for taking a joy ride in the famileys car. you can bet they are cursing the moment they called for HELP.

Police have incredibly difficult jobs. There are bad eggs in every profession. Give them a break.
