There is an election coming up in Canada. Liberal vs Conservative.

The Conservative party leader Stephen Harper has been going out of his way to protray himself as a moderate conservative, compassionate as you Americans would term it. He has scoffed and laughed at liberal claims that he is a "Neo-Conservative". In an election race just under 3 months long and with no decisive leader the liberals need to show in an easy to understand light what the guy truly is, they are scrambling, they are searching, and then they find this

What this is a 1997 speach by Stephen Harper to the Council for National Policy, an American conservative think tank/lobby group.

In the speech you such amazing tidbits as:

"First, facts about Canada. Canada is a Northern European welfare state in the worst sense of the term,"

"Let's take the New Democratic Party, the NDP, which won twenty-one seats. The NDP could be described as basically a party of liberal Democrats, but it's actually worse than that, I have to say. And forgive me jesting again, but the NDP is kind of proof that the Devil lives and interferes in the affairs of men."

"In fact, before the Reform Party really became a force in the late '80s, early '90s, the leadership of the Conservative Party was running the largest deficits in Canadian history. They were in favor of gay rights officially, officially for abortion on demand. Officially -- what else can I say about them"



There is more and more and more and more it is a veritable treasure trove of political disaster. Truly beautiful. Will be fun to see how the conservatives run with that.

This one made me chuckle

'It's about a constitutional lawyer who dies and goes to Heaven. There, he meets God and gets his questions answered about life. I'm glad to see you weren't offended by that. I've had the odd religious person who's been offended. I always tell them, "Don't be offended. The joke can't be taken seriously theologically. It is, after all, about a lawyer who goes to Heaven."

Yeah, but Americans were the ones voting. That's your problem right there.
