Medical and Computer Science. What's Next?Follow

#1 Dec 14 2005 at 5:01 PM Rating: Decent
I had an intriguing conversation with a customer yesterday. The man appeared to be in his mid 60's, and seemed to know alot about math and science from his education. I believe his previous job had something to do with building airplane motors.
Ehter way we got to talking about medical and computer science. The man informed me there's a group of scientist, which he implied was headed by one man in particular, that is working on writing the computer code for thoughts. He told me they have been successful so far...
So that lead us to our next topic, computer implants in the brain. Sure, currently they are doing such things. But we were talking about implants that doubled the strenght of our memory. Implants that change the aging process. And especially, implants that connected us to the internet.
With the power to connect to the net, the human race would no longer think as independent being, but rather a collective. Like ultimantly intended, the human race will become one. Humans will become psyborgs, humans will become god as we know him.

This new technology can be used for great good or greater evil depending on the hands it's put in.
Good/Bad dicuse...

Then, the entire human race is destroyed by a computer virus and has to start over.

What's that supposed to mean? Working on AI? That's no secret. Code to allow a computer to interpret thoughts? I have my doubts.

(A) Possible someday maybe but I don't believe we know hoe human memory is "stored" to begin with, much less know how to create something that will seemlessly connect into it.
(B) Aging isn't done in the brain, it's believed to be a genetic process that occurs throughout the entire body.
(C) We have a connection to the internet. We call them fingers and eyes. Even if we could "jack in" directly, it'd be like accessing the internet now only without all the bothersome typing and looking. I don't see why you'd surrender your consciousness or identity.

Clearly you lack the hardware to support a real OS.

I didn't say anything about surrendering your consciousness. And common sense says that if we're advanced enough in our technology, then obviopusly the internet format would be different then we know it now. I suggest one think outside the box when dealing with such topic like the future and other unknowns...

Um.. yeah. You did.
With the power to connect to the net, the human race would no longer think as independent being, but rather a collective.

Does "think outside the box" mean "Just blindly assume we'll become a giant hivemind because I said so"? You need to present your assumptions a little better than that if you want to be taken seriously.

So you and some old guy sat around saying "Dude! We'll be like Borg, man! Or the Matrix!" Fantastic.

OH, suddenly the point of your poorly conceived and atrociously typed post becomes compellingly clear and worth discussing.

No, no, wait. That was just gas.

Look, any 16-year-old can talk to a schizophrenic and come up with material at least that good, and usually far more amusing. You fail to amuse. Probably not your fault; you're just kinda ordinary and bland.

See the big problem here is you are a troll. Everywhere i see you post, your cutting down other people. You are pathetic. Probably the type of person who gets ****** with alot in rl. Your only escape, is go online and insulting people how can't punk you to your face like your use too.
You think your so god damn smart don't you? From what i've see you post, your shallow and totally portray the little man syndrome. And as far as my intellectual conversation with the stranger. You have no idea who i am, or who he was. So your sterotypical schizo remark only furtures my proof of your ignorance.

Regardless what i post and how i spell it, atleast i take the time to question the norm...

Point taken. But still i fail to see how thinking as a collective means you have to surrender you consciousness. Two minds are greater than one; Doesn't mean one mind submits to the other.

Nope. The definition of "Thinking out side the box" could be concidered a paradigm.

Paradigm
1 : EXAMPLE, PATTERN; especially : an outstandingly clear or typical example or archetype
2 : an example of a conjugation or declension showing a word in all its inflectional forms
3 : a philosophical and theoretical framework of a scientific school or discipline within which theories, laws, and generalizations and the experiments performed in support of them are formulated; broadly : a philosophical or theoretical framework of any kind
