I would love a new game, but I am not so sure WoW would run on my pc. My video card is a big issue. The answer will probably be no, but I am going to ask anyway. Would WoW run on this pc?

Dell Inspiron 700m Laptop
1.0 GB RAM
Intel Pentium M Processor 2.0 Ghz
And here is the bad part: Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller 64mb

The old Asheron's Call would run fine, but no way in hell would FFXI run. I tried it on a whim, and my pc groaned loudly and said "no way!"

Wow will run on any computer that EQ ran on would be my bet. I played it on my old Compaq presario from 2001 and only 256ram, haha.

I didn't say it ran well.

I play on Argent Dawn if anyone is on there. My main is Deeny.

I think you'll be fine - my wife plays on our Dell Inspiron 8200 (2ghz, 1gb Ram, GeForce Go 64MB video) and she has no problems. You might want to check out WoW's Support site to make sure. You may not be able to maximize your settings, but it should be fine. The minimum graphic requirements are 32MB 3D graphics processor with Vertex and Pixel Shader capability, such as an NVidia GeForce FX 5700 class card or above.

Anyhoo, most folks I know that play on laptops have no problem.

Great and thanks! We can start to gather character names here in this thread, too - I'll track them - make both Alliance and Horde characters until we figure how we should kick this off - Hopefully we'll get a good consensus as to what side we should put together a guild for the Asylumites. I think a Horde side would be fun, but I know that a lot of women don't care much for the female characters on the Horde side. I'm up for either.

My Alliance side character's name is Belfry, a Dwarven Paladin.

i dont plan on changing my server, as im in a decent guild, but welcome back to WoW.

honestly, im prety board with online gaming in general, as they are all pretty much alike. i quit EQ because it has evolved to the point that if you are not raiding, you are not playing, and staring at a computer moniter for 4 to 6 hours at a time is not fun for me.

i quit EQ2, inspite of its outstanding graphics, for pretty much the same reason. whack-a-mole. the quests you can solo are all kill 10 of these, and 20 of those, for some crap reward, and running around hailing every npc to find a quests kind of blows. the quests with decent rewards all take a group effort in some dungon where you sit around and beg for a group for longer periods of time than you actually play in a group.

WoW, inspite of its inferrior graphics, which makes it run smooth on lower end PC,s i might add, while still taking second place to sci-fi friday on cabel, at least has a good quest engine. i have achieved level 50 solely on quests. i have not killed anything outside of a quests unless it attacked me. it is easy to log on for an hour or so, and actually COMPLETE a quest without having to beg for a group to help you.

i will probably stay with it till their expansion launches, or vanguard does, which ever comes first. vanguard is being made by the people who made the origonal expansion of EQ before sony bought them out. WoW has earned the title "everquest". EQ and EQ2 should be called "get a group quest". hopefully, vanguard will learn from WoW,s outstanding sucess and make a EQ enviroment, with WoW game play. the best of both worlds. no body does dungons better than EQ.

I know exactly what you mean about "the journey of leveling up a character." I have found myself logging in with one of my 60s and unless I have friends online, I usually switch to leveling an alt, and trying a new class. I think its the shift to raiding in the endgame that really drops the fun factor. Last night just as I finished helping a friend in Silithus, I got a tell for a PUG, 5-man BRD. I jumped at the chance cause 1) I had yet to 5-man BRD with my shaman, and 2) I had like 8-9 quests in my log. I was the most fun I have had with my shaman since turning 60. We didnt finish the instance but I cleared 4 quests and had a good time.

As for EQ2 /rude Sony. I tried it at launch and I couldn't play more than 10 min before it would crash. I susspect they had issues with ATI cards, but Tech support wasn't helping me. I went through enough BS trying to (unsuccessfully) cancel the EQ2 account before getting billed that I cancelled my EQ1 accounts (used to dual-box) and havent bought anything from sony since.

I'd come play but my lack of time, money(for paying for or buying WoW) and video card is going to keep me from playing for a while.

Myself and Trickybeck are on Mal'ganis (pvp) Horde. Neph was talking about coming back. If anyone needs a referral for one of those 19.95 coupons I could probably hand one out.

Isn't Aegis alliance on that server?

I'm in an awesome Horde guild (www.juiceguild.com) on Lightning's Blade, can't say that I have an urge to switch to a new server, I usually end up neglecting my alts.

If the various Asylumites manage to come together in a single guild, then I'll join in. However, I can see no way for the Asylum to be on either a non-PvP server or be Alliance. I just can't see the vast majority of you doing either of those. Smiley: tongue

I know the graphics may take some getting used too, however, I think you will be surprised at the immersiveness and beauty of the game world. It really is spectacular. I say this as a big fan of EQ2 and it's high end graphics. As it's been said a 1000 times before, comparing the art in WoW to EQ2 is like comparing apples and oranges. They are great in their own way.

I will say that for those who didn't care for EQ2, they have made some significant changes (for good or bad, heh) since the release - you now have the option of using the SOGA (Asian market) character models instead of the bland U.S. ones. Yes, it's group oriented, but that's kind of the primary point of MMORPGs anyhoo.

My problem with EQ2 is none of the knuckleheads here or in my old EQ guild play it. Some play WoW and EQ1, but I tried going back to EQ1 and while I will stop by there from time to time, I honestly found its gameplay dated and I just couldn't have fun with it anymore. At least WoW is current and great cooperative fun for grouping and soloing when you want.

If you haven't tried it before, Frakkor, I think you'll be surprised at the fun gameplay mechanics compared to EQ1.

Hopefully we'll get at least 10 folks to get on board with this and we can decide which faction to go with - Alliance or Horde. BTW, this doesn't mean you have to give up your other characters on your other servers/other games - it's all good. I think it would be a blast to get everyone together in one server/faction/guild and just have some fun every once in a while. No long term committments needed or anything has to be mandatory - just try to have some fun, is all.

The only rules I would like to see is to have a good time, be cool to your guildmates and don't be an asshat to other people in game while bearing the guild name, whatever that will be.

Sweet! I added your name to my friend's list in-game.

Anyone else that is interested, be sure to post your character's names in this thread and I'll start a tally in my opening post:

So should we assume Alliance or wait to get more folks interested and do a poll later to decide? If so, roll an Alliance toon for now just for communications purposes.

Well, not for now anyways.

Actually, I would totally be up for playing Horde - I've never played past level 10 or so with a Horde character. The hard part might be convincing some of the ladies here to play Horde. If not, great, but if it is a problem, maybe we'll have to wait to do Horde when the Expansion comes out with the attractive Blood Elves. Just saying it's a possibility.

If we do stick with Alliance, I'm ok with that. It speaks to my inner Dwarf.
