am a gun owner.
I have it because I lived alone for a few years until I was married, and not in a nice area. All I can say is that if some one were to break into my home, I wasn't going to allow myself to be beaten, raped, robbed or victimized by any means.
The majority of gun owners are mediocre shots at best. Few practice enough to be a skilled shot at the range let alone in a high stress situation like someone breaking into your home at night. Hand guns are not suitable for home defense as you really need to know what you’re doing to stop someone. I have seen first hand people shot 10+ times and they still were shooting back at the cops. In the reserve academy, they showed us a tape of a guy shot by 4 different police officers with 9mm and .45’s. He was shot something like 18 times and didn’t go down until one shot hit his spine.
If you want home defense, buy a pump-action shotgun. You won’t even have to shot it as most people won’t stick around after hearing you rack a round. And if you do need to shot you don’t really have to aim too much, and most won’t be ready to harm you after taking some buckshot to the torso.
I too am a gun owner, but I shoot for sport and until a few months ago, I carried the gun for work. I store my weapon
locked and unloaded. I store my ammunition and loaded magazines in a separate area.
I’m against gun banning, but strongly for more stringent training requirements. Too many of those “gun-related injuries†are from people who are just clueless. I mean who the **** are these asshats that clean their gun while it’s loaded or shoot their gun in the air on New Year’s eve.
A handgun ban does nothing to prevent suicide as someone intent on killing themselves will just use a different method. It doesn’t stop gun use in criminal activity as most guns used in crimes are illegally obtained anyway.
