Rather ironic...

Has anyone else seen the large shrine to Lennon in Prague?

"We live in a country, where John Lennon takes six bullets in the chest, Yoko Ono was standing right next to him and not one ******* bullet! Explain that to me! Explain that to me, God! Explain it to me, God! I want it! God! Jesus! Now we've got twenty-five more years. Yeah, I'm real ******* happy now, God. I'm wearing a huge happy hat, Jesus Christ! I mean Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead, and we can't get Jon Bon Jovi in a helicopter. Come on, folks. "Get on that helicopter John. Shut the **** up and get on that helicopter! There's a hair dresser in there. Yeah, go ahead in there, yeah yeah."

It was in response to elinda's "Imagine", which, regardless of your acknowledgement of it, is quite trite and cliched, especially when used on the aniversary of the man's death.

More to the point, however, who gives a fat, corn-filled sh;t, really? He was nothing more than a self important aging hippy when he died. If only someone could use the example and put a few in Bono's chest so we can remember the man's better music and not his farcical aging pseudo-hippy evolution.

Today's winning quote! Well played, sir, well played.

I'm just giving props to a fellow Librarian.

I'm not gonna go and defend his views or start shouting how he(they) changed the face of music or wahtever..

I agreed with him and liked his music. I don't know about the "self importance" part though.. but I never met the guy.

It was quite obvious what "trite" would be in reference to, which is precisely why it one would use it on the anniversary of the man's death.

You seem to have issues with people who are revered.

I have no issues with people who are revered. I have issue with people displaying their "reverence" in one word, trite and unimaginative tribute like they're supposed to be all cool and with it, man.

IMAGINE! Woohoo!

If you revere the man, or just his music or his politics, don't you think something more than that uninspired homage would be appropriate? A 2 line poem, or a singe sentence about how much you admired him or a 3 volume dissertation on the impact of him and his accomplishments on modern society. Something that takes a little effort, for f'uck's sake. Don't dishonor the man by writing "imagine". How more unimaginative can you be?

I think it funny also that the man writes a song called Imagine, which is about a life without positions, religion and all that sort of crap. He sings about how wonderful it would be blah blah blah, all while making millions.

    nevermind, looked it up.

eh, nothing can be proven. The IRA funding seems to be the only solid thing... which has ben denied..

but IMO, he probably did, sinse he said he'd side with the IRA before he would the British Army, after the Bloody Sunday incident..

    interesting.

Like Lennon, I'm a staunch supporter of a United, self-Governed Ireland.

Unlike Lennon, I've never cheered on the IRA that bombed children and women to score a point.

    IMHO - Lennon = A Fucking Cunt*

    * Transl. An Funting Kumquat

    Edited to add.

PS "Imagine" is as imaginative and deep as a Hallmark Christmas Card. Read " 'June' and 'Spoon' " for the gullible Lennon fanatics

Not quite defending him, but I think it was more that he was "caught up in the moment" then to score points with the public.

but indeed that is still no excuse.

Civilian targeting = Kumquatery, hands down
