A pound of C4 wrapped in easily obtainable yellow cake would put everyone in a several mile radius in danger. How about if it was wrapped in vials of a nerve agent?

Then shooting at the nerve agent was a real good idea.

Also, easily obtainable? Please.

Ceasium 137 is easily obtainable, yelowcake, no.

No, but farmers 30 miles downwind are going to have to deal with the effects of radiation poisoning for a few years.

Not really, neither one would do much if in a tiny bomb set off inside an airport. Just be a pain in the *** to clean up mainly.

Yeah it would be a pain in the *** to clean up.

Fairly sure I mentioned that.

You might have to build a new section of airport.

For it to 'contaminate a city' it would have to become AIRBORNE signifgantly which would require a much large amount of conventional explosive than you could fit in a backpack.

Hell though, what if it had been a Neutron Bomb! Or wrapped in mozzerella. That stuff's sticky.

Have you ever set off a firecracker in a bowl of flour? I'm pretty sure a backpack sized bomb would do a decent job of dispersing the material. Especially if there was a breeze and he was on a thin jetway several dozen feet off the ground.

No, but I've done threat assements of the impact of various classes of ordinance if used by terrorists.

He was 'technically' illegal in as much as he was a legal migrant whose work visa had expired. Does that make his life worthless?

No.

But he was a Brasilian electrician, so he deserved to die.

Shrapnel can travel at lethal speeds much further than 100 yards. However, 100 yards is an awful long distance to hit a moving target with a handgun. I doubt the Marshall was certified to shoot a suspect in a crowded area from that distance.

A bomb that can fit in the sole of a shoe can take down an airplane and also kill people, grenades are not that large and are quite lethal. A backpack can hold a large amount of explosives such as dynamite etc. which combined with shrapnel can be very deadly to unprotected soft targets in a very large area of effect.

Hey Genius Smash:

What would you be saying if he hadn't shot him and the guy had a bomb on him? You'd be sitting here like the little ***** you are complaining about how the guy shoulda pulled the trigger, and that's what you get for having incompetent employees, and we need more tax money to increase salaries so we can get better quality air marshalls. SO STFU ALREADY! Your words are worthless cheap shots, that's all you have ever been able to accomplish in my view.

Well. A few points that I got from the initial story.

He was on a causway between the plane and the terminal. I don't know what your airports are like, but every one I've been to, these things are *not* 100 yard away from crowds of people. They are typically about 60 to 70 feet long, running straight into the plane door at one end, with a 90 degree turn at the end that leads to the terminal. So if he's at the midpoint of that causway, he's likely maybe 30-40 feet from the plane, and probably no more then 20 feet from the terminal. Most airports are laid out so that planes park nose into the terminal, with the causway running parallel to the terminal building wall. This would mean that there's only the thin wall of the causesay, maybe 10-15 feet of empty air, and then the outer wall of the terminal between the bomb and usually a pretty densly packed group of people. That's not terribly much to blow through.

As to saftey. Since the causway has a turn in it before it gets to the terminal, it would be nearly completely safe to fire at a suspect running from the plane to the terminal. Bullets travel in a straight line. You'll hit the turn in the causeway, but not anyone in the terminal. It was the ideal time and place to fire at someone with a bomb if you were going to do it.

And. Just a thought. Instead of saying we shouldn't have skymarshals with guns on airplanes. How about we not have bi-polar people on airplanes instead? You don't have a legal right to fly on a plane. Deal with it.

So to show we're not giving in to the terrorists, we should let him set off his bomb. Killing the guy before he could endanger hundreds would be letting the terrorists win, so, to show them how tough we are, we're going to let them blow up whatever they want. That'll teach them to mess with us. We should also appologise for getting our pesky buildings in the way of their planes. Our bad.

Actually I do.

It's covered by some legislation you told me didn't exist back when you said companies could just not hire any black people if they felt like it.

The law is confusing and beffudling to you, isn't it?

Molish. I know, I'm not supposed to stare but bob-damn its hard. I've never seen a two legged dog with dick in its *** and a grin on its face.

Now back to the thread. From the story it sounded as if he was endangering people. I mean, these ARE trained US air marshals. They aren't going to be shooting up the airport unless it the situation truly did present it self as hazardous to the surrounding society. However, I also do agree that Osama IS infact laughing his *** off right now.
