It's being pitched as laugh out loud comedy here in the US, at least in all the ads I've seen for it, which is jarring, becuase the ad goes like "OMG Daisy is HILARIOUS! FUNNY! AMAZING! SO COOL AND FRESH AND NEW!" and then it's a low-key Brit joke.

Cho and Ball get my nods as funny female comedians.

Part of my is sad for Daisy. It seems as though she's a funny lass, but I don't think her show is going to cut it. Finally gets a call to the big leagues and finds that she's playing the wrong game.

I give it half a season at best. I haven't even seen it. That's how baseless my guess it.

I agree, Danalog, and I think that tends to support my theory. Ball, in particular, was an enormous risk-taker, willing to go above and beyond looking ridiculous. She was amazing.

Edited for context. Context good.

I have to say the preview of the skit on Daisy Does America where she asks the dog psychic with a completely straight face "Who, who-who who let the dogs out?" made me laugh out loud.

In general though I think women get more /butthurt when their humor is turned around on them than men do, which subsequently triggers the ***********

I'm funny as hell until you start mocking me, then I pout.

I heard Sarah Silverman is fall-off-your-seat funny in The Aristocrats. Waiting for it to come out on DVD though.

Thank you! I couldn't remember her name.

I've watched a couple roast she has done and she usually stands out as the funniest of the female comedians that perform.

Found some good quote from the 11 O'Clock show. Worth the effort, I have been in tears of laughter at my desk reading all of these.

Her schtick was "innocent posh girl" accosting unsuspecting government officials. Trying to find clips on the web but coming up short.

I think you are on to something with the aimed at Brits vs aimed at Americans thing. No matter how hard I try, I can't figure out what the bolded sentence means :P

Whose that high pitched chick in the sitcom with the gay guys and the anorexic brunette?

She is very funny. But I like dry, sarcastic humor rather then slapstick.

Except for Jim Carrey. He makes me laugh just looking at him. I can't tell you how many times I actually cry with laughter when watching Pet Detective (1st one). Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty are good movies also.

Men seem to laugh at jokes related to bodily functions. Farts are just funny in my book.

You should have put X's over the eyes, like I was pissed and going to hit you or something.

Joph put me in a Sixpence None the Richer "Kiss Me" mood.

I haven't seen here in The Aristocrats, but her comedy outside of the movie is laugh out loud funny.

Yeah, Sarah Silverman is pretty funny. Definitely shagable as well.

She's the exception that proves the rule.

I think that Margaret Cho, Ellen DeGeneres and Kathy Griffin are great.

Check out Kathy Griffin's shows on Bravo (there are a couple of shows - Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List and Kathy Griffin: Allegedly). I watched Kathy Griffin: Allegedly on Bravo last night. It was a 2-hour standup show, which is impressive by itself. I thought it was a great show. Of course, I have a thing for red haired, Irish lasses, anyhoo.

Regarding Jim Carrey, who I think is pretty cool and a decent actor - but honestly, what was the last REALLY funny movie he made? For me, I gotta go with the first Ace Ventura and maybe The Cable Guy (more creepy than funny, but still ok). The second Ace Ventura sucked. The Mask was so-so. Liar, Liar was ok. Bruce Almighty was weak (Steve Carrell was the scene-stealer in that movie). For most of his other movies, he was too busy trying to prove he was a serious actor.

1. Kathy Griffin is the worst fucking comedian I have ever seen.
2. Jim Carrey... Ummmm, ever heard of Dumb & Dumber? Liar, Liar was hilarious too. Me, Myself and Irene also had its funny moments. Then there is The Truman Show (yeah yeah decent) and who can forget is time on In Living Color.

You, madam, haven't done your homework. ;)

A few other people have mentioned her, but Margaret Cho is nails. Ellen can be funny, never liked Gilda Radner or Roseanne. As far as TV female characters that make me laugh (not comics), I always tip my hat to Carla from Cheers and Karen from Will and Grace (both from the same writers), as well as Sophia from The Golden Girls.

Sara Silverman, who is very funny
(JH: Between CRANK YANKERS and GREG THE BUNNY, you've been a part of at least two puppet shows on TV. Anything we should know?
SS: Puppets are into ***-play)

has a movie coming out, Jesus is Magic.

Cho is a great comedian though she spends a bit too much time making fun of her own weight. At some points it gets a bit uncomfortable for me because she just goes on and on about it and eventually it becomes unfunny.

In all fairness it's probably not supposed to be funny at that point, it's supposed to be socially enlightening.

The girl that does lisa simpson's voice is actually incredibly funny during her stand-up routine (saw it on Just for laughs circa 198somthing).

Just for laughs is actually a great show/expo that has quite a few good female comics and some really, really bad ones.

May not be available in the U.S though.

When you tell a joke and make a woman laugh I think, as a man, you feel you have scored points with her. Espeically if you are interested in her. If the woman makes the man laugh, the man may feel defensive, especially if interested in her. I don't know how to put it into words: as if the initiative has been taken away, or that the woman is the more clever? Men are far more honest about how funny other men are.

However, I do have some evidence that, in general, men laugh less at equally funny material from a woman then a man. It isn't really great evidence. When I played Everquest (bear with me) I wound up playing a female character once in a while. Long story. Anyhow, I would typically joke around a bit in Eq but with the female character, nothing "worked" - the men never laughed and the other females (who perhaps were also played by men aren't the statistics about 50/50?) didn't really respond either. I actually tried identical material which my main (male) character afterwords, in roughly the same sequence, and it worked fairly well - as well as I was used to.
