A small topic for discussion. Women are not funny. Stand-up, movies, tv, women are never laugh out loud funny. I've maybe met one or two girls that are really funny. Most are cutely amusing, but never Jim Carrey funny.

Why?

Ready go.

I think some women are funny. I think Janeane Garofalo (I know I spelled that wrong, but I can't be bothered) is hilarious, for example.

You find them un-funny because you are a latent homosexual and have repressed anger towards your mother. Come out of the closet and embrace your real self if you want to begin enjoying life. Talk to Sabo/PJ for details.

Old hat, floppy.

Who knows but Pablo francisco is pretty humerous. Janine Garfaelo's crankyness is far from funny. You know, I can't really think of any females in the comedy industry that have made me laugh so hard. They all seem to have the same PMS, men suck jokes.

And more than that, they all come off as complete bitches.

Maybe that is part of the problem. Guys can do things and look like dumbasses (which is funny), women do these things and look like PMSing ********

Oh wait, that came from niobia. GFY, drink a bleach cocktail, yada yada yada.

I hate you too. that doesnt change the fact that Jim Brueur is still funnier then Rita Rudner.

In most cases I agree, but I do think Ellen is funny.

But, she is "batting for the other team," so maybe that's it.

I blame Roseanne for most of the horrible female comics. Most of them now are just emulations of her horrible humor.

I've you've ever seen any of Gilda Radner's stand up you would see a truly funny woman.

God, not to mention her awful crotch grabbing rendition of the national Anthem.

True, Gilda was funny. I loved how she could recreate herself into different characters - she wasn't the norm though.

seriously, can anyone name a GOOD female standup? One that makes you bust a gut laughing?

Yo, *****, who you quoting in your sig, there, fuckslap?

Okay, okay. I agree in part, and I have some ideas on the whyfores.

Some women are funny. Roseanne was, in her heyday. Ellen is, in her low-key style (more Newhart than Kinison, certainly). Tracy Ullman has made me laugh hard. Carol Burnett was not just an enabler, but a damn funny woman in her own right. Et cetera.

Why are some women funny, and others not so much? Same reason some men are, and others not so much. It all goes back to the old risk vs. reward dichotomy, and most women are not risk takers.

In order for anyone to explore the depth and breadth of their talent, whatever it may be, they have to be willing to lay themselves out there, right on the line. It's a breathtaking risk. It's potential psychic suicide. Men are more likely to be willing to take that chance, in my opinion.

I've spent some time thinking about why there are so few women geniuses in the arts, generally, and I believe this is the crux of it. Personal opinion, take it as you will. The I Ching tells us that "Before the brilliant person begins something great, they must appear foolish to the crowd." Women hate looking foolish, in general. It's a risk. /shrug

With that said though, Lucille Ball is one of my all time favorite funny people.

(and Nadenu is WAY funnier than Nephthys)

Daisy does America has its humour more aimed at Brits than Americans, and isn't pitched as laugh out loud comedy. Her interviews on the 11 O-Clock show here in the UK were her finest hour. Her schtick was "innocent posh girl" accosting unsuspecting government officials. Trying to find clips on the web but coming up short.
