how many times can one person miss the point in one thread???

How do you compair a fireman putting out fires to a christian telling people they will go to hell if they don't worship Jesus?

How can you compair a policeman catching crooks to a Christian telling people they are damned because they don't worship someone no-one can even conclusively prove exsisted at all?

Christians are vain when they say that christianity is the only "Correct" way to live.

They are conceited when they try to take the moral high ground based on thier faith, a faith which has a history of murder and hatred.

They are arrogant when they refuse to listen to other ways of living that are not thier own, while demanding others listen to them.

Get it?

Got it?

Good.

I just converted from Christian Reformed to Catholicism a few years ago.

In the classes I took they taught that every form of Christianity stems from Catholicism. It started with Lutheran and then they branched off from there to the 50 million versions that we have today.

That's what I know.

I think the problem word here is the word "offshoot." I concur that catholicism is a "type" of christianity, but not an offshoot of it, all of christianity is an offshoot of catholism. The RC church was started by the Apostle Peter, who became the first pope. Offshoot implies derived from not part of a group.

Tarv Writes:

Why would you care what christains say? If you don't believe in heaven than you believe in hell either.

How can you compare a policeman catching a crook to a christain telling peoplethey are all damned because they don't worship someone no-one can even conclusively prove existed at all.

There is more evidence that Jesus Christ existed than they is evidence that george washington was our first president. There is more evidence the Jesus Christ was resurrected than World war 1 ever happened. How do you figure out if any historical figure ever lived? Apply those same methods to Jesus Christ and you'll have all the evidence you ever wanted. How can you expect someone to get your point when your points are not accurate. Your point is based on your high and migthy belief system, the same crime you accuse christains of.

Christains are vain when they say that christainity is the only " correct " way to live.

Who are you to say they are wrong and by saying so doesnt that make you equally vain.

They are conceited when the try to take the moral high ground based on their faith, a faith that has a history of murder and hatred.

This statement is just ignorant. Please feel free to look up the definition to ignorant. Humanity's history is filled with murder and hatred. This is the nature of man, not christainity. Do you blame all the wars on christainity? Man, whether religious or not is guilty of murder and hatred. Are you not taking high moral ground to claim that is christainity?

They are arrogant when they refuse to listen to others ways od living that are not their own, while demanding others listen to them.

I have listen to other ways, I just don't believe them, they offer no hope. I chose hope over despair. I have never demanded someone to listen to me, other than my kids nor have I ever receive such a demand, other than my parents. All christains know that not everyone will make it to heaven including some who claim the title of christains.

My point is, you made no point. All you did was bashed the christain religion, congrats.

I suppose as many times as you fail to make it effectivly

Perhaps because Christians feel that it is that dire

Christians don't share their faith out of vanity, it's simply out of caring about their fellow man. They feel that they have information that can make your life better. I can't speak for other Christians but I've spent my life listening to many ways of life. I've demanded no one listen to mine.

In fact the only reason you're reading this is by choice. The only reason you've gotten this response is because you solicited it. Are you arrogent for refusing to hear my way? Are you conceited for claiming the moral high ground because people have committed atrocities in the name of Christianity? Are you vain for saying my way of living is incorrect?

I'm offering life, what are you offering? If you'd like to hear more please reply.

Are you arrogent for refusing to hear my way?

I have listened to "Your way" i found it lacking for many reasons, i am happy for anyone to listen to your way because "my way" doesn't require me to force others down my path.

Are you conceited for claiming the moral high ground because people have committed atrocities in the name of Christianity?

Anyone can claim the moral high ground against Christianity because of christianity's record. it's not conceit, it's historically recorded fact.

Are you vain for saying my way of living is incorrect?

Unlike Christians, i never claim my way is right for anyone other than me. All i ask is that people question thier beliefs instead of blindly following doctrine.

Remember it was you who said i was spiritless, not i who called you faithless.

Tarv, you are still confusing Christainity with humanity.

You chose to fault the religion instead of the humans. Christainity never killed anyone, Humans do that with or without a religous belief.

Well actually Christianity doesn't force anyone down it's path either. Everyone is free to either follow or not. I can only assume you wish to know more about it as you keep coming back here.

So wait let me see if I have this right. It's conceited if Christians do it but it's not conceited if you do it? Now who's persecuting who?

Quote:

What makes you assume that all Christians blindly follow doctrine? Do you believe that they have not spent a great deal of time soul searching, researching, and praying before they came to follow the way that they do?

You claim that all you ask is for people to question their beliefs, yet when they do if they don't come to the exact same conclusions you have they are arrogent, vain, and conceited you've contridicted yourself through this entire thread.

From what I've seen of your way in this thread it appears to be a hazy twisted fog of anger and accusations where the only truth is what you happen to believe at the very moment you say it. You claim Christianity is pridefull, arrogent, concieted, and vain yet you are the one who has become increasingly rabid with your rhetoric as this thread progresses.

Actually if memory serves you are the one claiming Catholics were retarded with mushy brains, I simply quoted a bible verse. You saw in it what you wanted to see.

No, not really it was the pollitical situation in 3rd centuary Rome, Constantine had to do something.

Actually, I should have meant,

Aren't those passages the sole Papal justification for the Church believing that it can do the things it does... ( like set up Popes, make up rules, mediate to God, condemn people, ect..)

You guys dwell on the human factor of the religion and in doing so miss the big picture.

CHURCHES: are self serving by nature. They do and say thing to fill their pews. Not to dimish the good that they do but if they cant fill the pews they cant exist.

PEOPLE: Have always messed up everything. It's is in our nature be cruel. A very simple look at human history shows a race that doesnt deserve existence.

GOD: is perfection on a scale that we can only speculate about.

SOLUTION: Don't pay the churches and people any mind, instead seek your own path to God. Search in your heart, for it is there that God can be found. Seek with love, not anger or bitterness and you will find him, for God is love.

Really? so the Crusades and Inquisition where nothing to do with Christianity then?

Sure you could argue that Hilter and Bush are using Christainity for person aims but to use the same excuse for the above examples is a cop out.

Both where church driven directives, using the bible as a source.

In Catholosism, or really Orthodoxy in general, the Bible is gnerally on equal standing with tradion, ie: cannon law, Papal Buls etc. Having a continuous line of leadership from Peter on is the justification.

The justification for Prodestantism is a crazy German dude naling something to a wall.

You're blaming the symptom for the disease.

The disease is humanities inablilty to spiritually think for itself, the symptom is religion.

Both were largely political exercises. The ties betwrrn the Chruch and the rements of the Roman empire really drove both more than religion did.

Well, the justification for Christianity is some crazy Jewish dude getting nailed to a cross, so I don't see the problem with that.

You are just being argumentive TARV. People carried out the Holy Crusades. Misguided PEOPLE under the wrong influence, but it was still people. What about all the others wars? There are people all over the world that kill people everyday in the name of God. Does that make God bad or people Bad?

Same agrument, do guns kill people or do people kill people?
This is not a cop out its common sense.

rimshot! The kid's on fire.

If you mean my definition of 'evil', I'd say it's a completely arbitrary concept invented by sociopaths to better manipulate others.
