Hire meFollow

Yes it's about that time. With the onset of a new year and a increase in business i'm going to hire a few more peeps come the new year. Here's what I look for in new employees:

Dress to impress...suit, tie, shoes shined, or professional skirt. No sluts or slobs need apply.

Must be clean cut (I'm the boss I can have a beard)

Well spoken (the business world doesn't recognize ebonics or country grammar; also no cursers)

In shape (whether male or female someone who takes care of their body tends to work harder)

Nonsmokers...I used to hire smokers but every freaking 15min they were taking smoke breaks.

Education is a plus but not required; I can teach someone what I what them to do; but an education shows the ability to learn.

And last but not least they must have a generally good disposition.

To those of you who've hired before what characteristics do you look for in new employees?

The last time I did any hiring, it for retail help during the late '90s economic boom when McDonald's was paying $12.50 an hour to flip burgers. My interviews usually went like...

Are you alive?
Can I reasonably expect at least an 80% chance that you'll arrive at the times and dates scheduled?
75% chance?
70%?
Do you promise not to burn the place down if I'm not here?
Do you promise to try not to burn the place down?
...
Welcome aboard.

I generally require my candidates to not be frothing at the mkouth during the interview, and to at least be able to fake sanity for a 20 minute period.

your entire approach to finding someone is flawed.

first, you need to recognize that the quality of person you will get is very dependant on the salery you will pay them.

20g and below, will not be able to afford nice cloths, and will have little education, and probably be young.

40g can expect some aducation, and decent cloths.

60g, can demand 4 year degree, desent cloths and good presentation.

100g, can expect 4 year degree or better, bussiness dress, and good work history in a chosen field.

1. work history is better than formal education, but does not nullify education.

2. physical well being, while nice, also means someone more interested in his self than your job. not alot of loyalty there.

3. the biggest con artists i have hired have all been better dressed than the best workers i have hired. CALL REFERANCES. looks mean little.

your recipe leaves you wide open for failure.

look for a good work history, and depending on the salery you plan on paying, formal education. forget dress, as long as it is clean and neat and presentable, what they wear to an interview means little. the bigger con artist they are, the better dressed they will be. they will ALL be non-smokers if you advertise that is what you are looking for weather they smoke or not. so dont mention it, just dont hire them if they smell like an ashtrey.

as far as physical apeearence? all depends on the job you need performed, and the pay you expect to give them.

for the rest of you, between 18 and 28, the government is hiring 12,000 air traffic controllers over the next 10 years. pay starts at 80g. call your local air traffic controll facility for information. equal opertunity, handicaped included. the alternative is working for this schmuck who is looking for a pretty face with little content.

Sadly, if we can find someone with a degree that's willing to start out with a shockingly low salary (we target fresh graduates), they'll get a chance if they can recite the alphabet.

When I'm doing an interview however, I look for communication skills. I couldnt care less about hair as long as its clean and somewhat groomed, but I expect people to be wearing ncie clothes. Suits are optional, as is taste, but if you don't have the common sense to look respectable, you don't want a job.

You're discriminating against an entire culture with this rule as muslims do not shave, they're religion requires that they have a beard. Not that someone like you would hire a muslim anyway.......racist asshole

You misunderstand. He requires that they be circumcised. Gives him a chance to check out the goods.

I never thought clean-cut necessarily meant no beard. I thought if you had a neatly trimmed beard you could still be considered clean-cut?

Nevermind, I read the original post again and he was clearly talking about beards.

Well there are only about 5 illegal comments he made in his post but this is a major one. Employers cannot ask smoking preferences of candidates by law...

Spanish is fine, though, I assume.

By your own credentials you'd love me in an interview...well, if I shaved the goatee that is.
