A person believes various things at various times, even on the same day. At the age of 73, I seem most instinctively to believe in the human value of creative writing, whether in the form of verse or fiction, as a mode of truth-telling, self-expression and homage to the twin miracles of creation and consciousness.
………~Novelist John Updike

I believe in the 50-percent theory. Half the time things are better than normal; the other half, they are worse. I believe life is a pendulum swing. It takes time and experience to understand what normal is, and that gives me the perspective to deal with the surprises of the future.
………~Farmer Stever Porter

I believe that the world is inherently a very dangerous place, and that things that are now very good can go bad very quickly.
………~Former Congressman Newt Gingrich

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the Mysterious -- the knowledge of the existence of something unfathomable to us, the manifestation of the most profound reason coupled with the most brilliant beauty. I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, or who has a will of the kind we experience in ourselves. I am satisfied with the mystery of life's eternity and with the awareness of -- and glimpse into -- the marvelous construction of the existing world together with the steadfast determination to comprehend a portion, be it ever so tiny, of the reason that manifests itself in nature.
………~Physicist Albert Einstien

You are not familiar with my voice, but my friend Polly Thomson will interpret the belief I have written from my soul. I choose for my subject faith wrought into life apart from creed or dogma. By faith, I mean a vision of good one cherishes and the enthusiasm that pushes one to seek its fulfillment, regardless of obstacles. Faith is a dynamic power that breaks the chain of routine, and gives a new, fine turn to old commonplaces.
......~Author and Activist Helen Keller

I believe I need coffee, or a couple more hours of sleep.
......~Sappy Asylum Poster Elinda

I believe that no matter how close you are, or how many years you spend together, you can never really know another person completely. Primarily, I believe this is because it's impossible to really know yourself completely, so how could anyone else really know you?

I believe working a 12 hour shift, followed by 6 hours of heavy drinking, and then attempting to have sex, is an exercise in futility.

I believe that nothing is enevitable, things and people can change and that you should always fight for what you believe in.

And I may be old fashioned here, but I still believe in family. Whatever type of family it may be.

I believe...
-90% of people are full of shit.
-Of the 10% of people that are not full of it, 5% will just
bullsh
it because simply they can.
-That 4 years of traveling the world will teach one much more about the world, than an infinate amount of textbooks.
-That most police officers hate being police officers, which is why they are dicks at work. Much like you and I.
-If my life were a book, it'd be best read backwards.
-That women get more out of sex then men. When your ear itches, and you scratch it with your finger, tell me, what feels better? Your finger or your ear? hmmm.
-That every president after Harry S. Truman was/is an idiot.
-That most people aren't cold hearted, just unobservant to kindness.
-In Karma(Not posting Karma).
-In socialism.
-That hockey players are the most hardcore individuals of all sports players, rugby players being a close second.
-That Soccer fans are the most vicious people on earth.
-That Methamphetamines are issued to new truck drivers upon graduation from truck driving school.
-In Dieism.
-Things sell in this order... Sex, God, Government/Country, and death/dispair.
-That money is the only immortal god in this world.
-That trying to help most people is like watering a dead garden.
-That Jack-in-the-box resturaunt has to be the worst business in the industry.
-That human travel outside of this galaxy will never happen, as mankind will kill itself off before we can reach that technological point.
-That President Bush(Both of them) is a shit-kickin dirty-redneck.
-That you should be able to haggle prices at major stores.
-That pharmaceutical companies make waaaay to much damn money.
-That firefighters, teachers, police, enlisted military, and EMT's do not get paid enough.
-Cigarette tax is insanely too high.
-Las Vegas is easily the best city in the United States.
-That people who key peoples cars should be shot when caught.
-Hit and Run should carry the death penalty.
-The electric chair should be brought back. Lets face it, Murderer's victims were more than likely not peacably killed in sleep, so why should they be allowed such a death? Fry em.
-In the death penalty.
-That 1/2 of the people in this world subconscience responsibility is to balance things, the other half, to unbalance it.
-That every city in California save for Sacramento, sucks.

I believe the universe is an awe inspiring, mysterious thing.

I believe the human race has a long way to go before we decide getting along and working together is preferable to genocide and war.

I believe this cup of coffee I just brewed is pretty tasty.

I believe it is in our nature to assign meaning to everything that happens. That's not a bad thing, though; an awful lot of good causes have been started as a result of individual tragedies.

How much of a difference is there in "assigning" meaning and "finding" meaning?

Assigning meaning comes from yourself. Finding meaning comes from outside yourself.

I believe that there are things we will never have an explanation for. Once you accept that, life is much easier.

I believe in God and that he created the universe. How he did it is his business. Big bang or instant creation, we'll never know until we're dead.

It was his buisness until he created Me.
Then it became my business.

Why is that? Do we not currently, in a living state, participate in the the functions of the universe already? Are not our minds and bodies integrated into the fabric of the universe already?

Waht would dying have to do with it?

Well, for me, as a Christian, after death, you go to an afterlife where you'll gain understanding. That's in the Bible. I know not everyone beleives God so what I'm saying has no importants to them, but it's what I believe. No, not pushing my values on you, just saying. This is a thread about what you believe and that's what I believe.
