history and government are not the same thing.
So to call the US history little or short compaired to others is just down right ignorant. no other single government in the world today has been around for any place close to 200+ years like the USA.

History of nation =/= History of nation's current government. Why are you crying about "ignorant" people not acknowleding the U.S.'s historical status if you agree that history isn't the same as government?

in fact the history of America is just as long if not longer then most of Europe and only second to Africa if you really want to get picky with human life time.
Except we're talking nations. Most people would accept a history France from the 1400's as a history of the nation France despite the political changes that have occured since. No one would take a study of the Wampanoag from the 1400's and call it the history of The United States of America.

Anyway, given the theory that mankind originated in Africa and tromped through Eurasia and get over the Bering ice bridge and into the Americas, your point still doesn't stand, no matter what Smiley: laugh

Oh yeah, in relation to my last post, I forgot to add the ethnic cleansing in Bosnia as one of the examples.

Hey Singdall, who smacked you in the face with the ****** brick this morning?

Hrm. In Singdall's defense, I remember hearing in a class something along the lines of "the US is the oldest constitutional republic in the world." I probably heard that in Poli Sci, I dunno. Maybe that is what he remembered hearing/reading? And if someone can think of an older example, that's fine, I don't really -know- I suppose, I just remember hearing it. *shrug*

We still have a relatively short history as a country, though.

You are full of it, for lack of a better phrase. It wasn't until late in the slave trade that the idea of "let's get the slave medical treatment because it would save me money in the long run" came about. Every part of the slave trade was horrid, starting with slaves being stacked on ships for importation. Slaves were treated horribly, as were white indentured servants. Again, later in the trade, the idea of separating the white indentured servant from the slave developed, through laws such as making it illegal for a slave and a white to marry, and making the punishment for runaway slaves more harsh than runaway indentured servants. An example of this would be a Virginia slave code that allowed for the dismemberment of runaway slaves, while indentured servants merely had time added to their term. A law in Maryland provided for masters to be able to cut off the ears of blacks who struck whites, and for more serious crimes, the slave should be hanged and the body quartered and exposed.

I don't doubt it's true, it just has little to do with how much history the nation itself has. Really, it doesn't prove much more than that the US has been geographically isolated and safe from invasion. There's been plenty of republics in Europe throughout the same span of time; they just happened to be on a continent that has been embroiled in conflict for much of the last 225+ years. They didn't change governments because theirs "didn't work", they changed because someone else rolled over their borders with a bigger army, a feat trickier to do to a nation overseas.

Well, considering the fact that I think many people would consider that cruel and unusual punishment, I don't think we will find out.

well then you want to go that route, then the anasasi nation was around pre Egypt so i would say that predates anything in europe worth mentioning...

so yes all nations have a very long history, but the US gov. is still older then the UK, France, Germany, etc...

You've dodged my question varrus. Why would we apply such punishments to blacks if not to whites and hispanics?

When we start a thread about the Anasasi nation instead of the United States, you'll have a point worth mentioning. As is, you're embarassing yourself.

Oh so monarchies do not count? I see ... ahhhh

So he changes the data critiera to suit his results hmmmm?

At no point other than one small king killing incident has the british form of government changed in a revolutionary way. And even after Cromwell died the monarchy was restored (although without absolute power over taxation and governance). Why does the Prime minister still have to speak to the queen to open or dissolve parliament for a general election?
Our system of law and governance has morphed over time to suit the changing demographics of the United Kindgom. We are still a monarchy, the monarch is still the head of state. Technically we still own colonies.
You can ask any Australian all about the 1970's when the queens representative in Australia disbanded parliament before calling fresh elections. But then I guess that is not real power hmmm? A weak monarch that can just dilute a parliament.....

Need I mention constitutional amendments in the US? But then thats not change according to an american is it? Not morphing to a new age? Bleh.

Singdall's point (in its in entirity) appears to be that America has had its own government longer than anybody else has had America's government, in a club of 1 member. WOW!

nope, its this plot of land is it not? same lands same nation.

get your terms straight. the nation of France and its current gov. are not the same age. the current french gov. changed after Nepolian was disposed, but the nation of France has been around since it was called Gal back when the Romans were in power. while the romans were in power and France was called Gal, the Americas were called something we do not know by the Anasasi who ruled the land long before Egypt was ruled by the Pharos.

a plot of land is a plot of land by any name that land has not drasitcally changed (few exceptions here) in the hisotry of man kind.

As for the Monarchy, then why does the EU, UK, and several other bodies that monitor and identify countries gov. list the UK as a Constitutional Monarchy. in other words it is no longer a pure monarchay and has not been for 100+ years.

When the Monarchy lost its power to govern and tax its subjects that government changed power to parliment. the PM is the head of state in your government, not your Queen. Sorry to say, but that is what GOVERNMENT is the power to govern over its people. your Queen does not govern over her subjects.

just so we understand what this word really means here is its definition:

Quote:
A government (from the Greek Κυβερνήτης kubernites - steersman, governor, pilot, or rudder) is an organization that has the power to make and enforce laws for a certain territory. There are several definitions on what exactly constitutes a government. In its broadest sense, "govern" means the power to administrate, whether over an area of land, a set group of people, or an association.

your Queen does not make or enforce law and the Monarchy of the UK has not done so since AFTER the USA was formed and we fought for our freedom from an oppresive taxasion without representation from said Monarchy that is no longer in power so far as GOVERNMENT is concerned.

Thus the type of Government of the UK is younger then that of the USA.

Well, the House of Commons and House of Lords have been around for something like 700 years.

Sure their government is drastically different now, but it has been essentially an evolution of the same, continuously-existing government.
