Physically FitFollow

Among the many things discussed i've noticed an obvious lack of discussion regarding what you plebs do to remain physically fit...allow me to begin

3 sets of 8 pull ups daily
1000 jump ropes every other day
20 miles biking 2 times a week
curl 3 sets of 10 35lb every other day
sets of 20 push ups periodically daily
split wood for the fireplace

I mix up all of these routines for instance I'll set a weekly goal of say 3000 jump ropes and 3 days of weights 2 of biking.

It's not easy accomplishing all I set out to but my father spent years in an office allowing his physical condition to deteriorate to a point where now it's a struggle for him to even begin a steady work out and i've vowed not to follow that same path.

So what do all you lazy asses do to keep in shape?

The Rec Room, Kegerator and Big Screen are downstairs, the bathroom is UPstairs. Simple and effective.

You must be a real pu[/u]ssy, I use 35LB dumbell for my deltoid flys.

After that, I do ***** push-ups with a 75 lb dumbell and then tie the same 75 lb dumbell to my ********* with a razor wire and go for a casual walk around the neighborhood with a wildebeest on my shoulders in a fireman's carry.

So I guess I'm in pretty good shape.

Yeah, that's ridiculous. I'm way too fat and lazy for any of it.

My idea of staying fit is going to work everyday.

I have a Bally's Gym membership, which I mainly do cardio on, do fifteen minutes on the elliptical, twenty minutes of repeated light-med weights, and then another 10-15 minutes on the eliptical or a walker/bike, depending on how beat I am.

Usually go three times a week with my fiancee.

It's not the effort involved. It's the jumping like an 8 year old girl for my fitness plan. Do you have one of those jumpropes that starts out purple on one side and then blends to pink? Because those were all the rage in the 4th grade. Smiley: smile

Mine's simple, I only eat what I can normally work off in a day at my desk. (I don't eat much) Plus I now have a first floor office and almost everything is on the second floor with a slow elevator.

Well, I find the best exercise to be running. I have been doing it for about three years now, and it's the best thing I've ever done. I ran cross country in high school and am doing it in college now. Depending on the time of the year, I reach up into the sixty miles per week range(running six days a week). Anyway, that's what I do. Enjoy.

#15REDACTED, Posted: Nov 30 2005 at 2:22 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was never into running, even when I played ball. It's horrible on your knees and I thoroughly enjoy cruising down a steep hill no hands on the handle bar going really fast, reminds me of surfing.

Once upon a time, the army forced me to be in excellent shape. I still couldn't run like some of those gals in the army can - geez, you have some really buff women in the military - but I have feet/knee issues. I could pump out man push-ups with the best of 'em! Since then, I have done some running, but the knee injury is getting the best of me. I also had a bout with a personal trainer which I really enjoyed, but that was during a time when I was more flush in the wallet. Now I am just becoming a slug. Been dieting and lost 25 pounds, but I know exercize would help. I just dislike it immensly.

I used to go to court south until I realized it was wasting my time and money. So I completely re-thought my routine. Now all the stuff I do can be done from the house, cardio, strength, stamina, etc. The one thing I've missed which I hope to remedy in the upcoming year is a steam room. Nothing like going between a jacuzzi and steam room after a good work out.

I'm still in an small apartment, and most likely will be until we get married. It'll take at least that long to work up a sizeable down payment so our mortgage won't rape us (go go baltimore-washington tech corridot). So I don't have room for any exercise machines of any sort. All I really would need is room for one elliptical machine and a place to put a bunch of those stretchy weight things and a set of weights, but at the moment I don't. (Extra room is being taken up by... you guessed it, three computers... alas, the needs of having two computer-related jobs)

I don't think running is hard on your knees. I have never had any knee injuries. It helps to have soft surfaces to run on, though. I have a bike trail near my home. I walked it with a distance measuring wheel out to seven miles (great for those fourteen mile stints). Running on uneven surfaces also strengthens the support muscles in your legs.

Totally depends. I was in the army being forced to run and ruck march a huge amount, and prior to that I was a slug. So it began with very sudden increased activity. I developed plantar fasciitis in both feet, which is without a doubt running related. The inserts they gave me to relieve that caused a knee injury called chondromalacia. When I continued to be active even though both injuries call for rest, I developed osteoarthritis and a slew of other problems. Without a doubt, every issue is running related. To put it in a better way, it is related to going from slug to running 6 miles a day and ruck marching 12 miles with 40 pounds on your back and being on your feet 8 hours a day, and continuing to do so for years even though you have been injured.

It is for me, since I have flex arches, which make my feet and knees stress in the wrong spots. Plus I had scarlet fever as a small child, which pretty much permanently weakened my knees.

Here you go, Dana - The 5BX program.

http://www.statesa.com/gettingfit/chart1.php

It was developed back in the 1950s for the Canadian air force. The goal was a set of exercises that could be done without special equipment and with limited space; something deployed pilots could use to maintain a given level of readiness. The exercises are designed to be completed in eleven minutes, so you can't really say it takes too long.

The system is broken up into a collection of charts. You start at the bottom rank on chart 1 (rank D-) and work your way up until you can handle the max for that chart (rank A+). When you've finished Chart 1 A+, move to Chart 2 D-.

Any MMO player ought be at home with an xp system, right?

If you find you can't advance on a given day, repeat that level tomorrow. Continue repeating it until you are capable of going forward. You'll scale up as the system does.

* warning: Some of the exercises can hurt you if you do them poorly. Take the time to stretch a little and make sure you're following the directions.

Most definitely your injuries were caused by a sudden increase in activity. Running wise, it isn't good to increase your mileage by more than 10% a week. I have seen many people go up by 50-100% increase in a week. Needless to say, they ended up missing about 4-6 weeks from injuries. A person just has to train intelligently. It's too bad this our military can't see this.
