Kember, a retired professor, is a longtime peace activist who once fretted publicly that he was taking the easy way out by protesting in safety at home while British soldiers risked their lives in Iraq.

I'm guessing if Kember is one of the hostages he's not thinking anythings "easy" about what he's experiencing now.

Quote:
The team's work has focused on documenting and focusing public attention on detainee abuses, connecting citizens of Iraq to local and international human rights organizations, and accompanying Iraqi civilians as they interact with multinational military personnel and Iraq's government officials," the group said.

On the bright side they'll gain first hand experience of how the enemy treats their hostages.

I'm put in mind of the folks that volunteered themselves as human shields prior to the start of the Second Gulf War.

I do wonder what Kember's opinion of the insurgency is at the moment. Maybe he'll be able to tell us if the vile imperialist soldiers can secure his freedom before the glorious freedom fighters behead him.
