Happy Turkey Day!

In just a few short hours I get to leave to go to my family dinner and listen to about 15 screaming kids running around uncontrollably. Smiley: disappointed

Glad I have a deer hanging in the garage that I need process today so that should give me an excuse to leave early.

Yay

You lucky bastard. In 15 minutes I'm leaving for my Mom's house where I'll spend the day with her friends two screaming ass kids and I can't think of one valid reason to get out of there before 6 or 7pm.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving. I woke up to 3 inches of snow with it still coming down. Kind of that perfect little holiday atmosphere, except it's cold and wet and going to be a pain to clean the car off.

We're leaving in 2 hours for my husbands relatives house. The best thing we're looking forward to is teasing my husbands aunt who is a pathological liar. Ahhh family.

Still in my PJs, waiting to go to the SO's for Thanksgiving. I'm starting to think my camisole and jeans combo is not appropriate, but brought nothing else.

Stupid Thanksgiving.

What the hell is a camisole? Sorry, I'm style-challenged.

Happy Turkey day. I'm heading over to a buddy's house shortly, just gonna be his Mom and his kid and me. Small, quiet, pleasant, and no drama. Just the way I like it.

I'm Canadian but I have to say it fucking annoys the shit out of me every years when a Canadian has to say "Thanksgiving is in October OMGLOLROFLCOPTERSPEWPEW!!!"

We have Thanksgiving when they have Columbus Day, amazing and crazy I know. Get over it.

PS I love American thanksgiving. Seeing as how I have to deal with Americans for 95% of what I do that means I get the day off. Thank you America, happy Thanksgiving.

It's a day of celebration to observe the feast the Pilgrims had with the Indians following their (the Pilgrim's) first harsh year.

There's a bajillion details to that, but that's the one sentence version. No gifts exchanged, just a large meal traditionally based around a turkey. The holiday itself was only semiformal until the mid-1800's when there was a campaign of sorts lauched to make it into what we know today.

Had the Pilgrims been escaping the religious persecution of Buddhists, he might know as well.

Just for giggles, all you ever wanted to know about how the turkey got its name.

In Portuguese, the bird is called peru, despite the fact that the bird was not introduced to Peru until after the Spanish conquest. The most reasonable explanation for the association is that the bird became popular in Portugal shortly after Pizarro conquered Peru in 1532, and the Portuguese made a natural assumption. In Brazilian slang, peru can also means "*****," which must make life interesting along the Brazil-Peru border. One word for the bird in one of the several dialects of Hindi is also peru or piru, which is probably borrowed from Portuguese.

Smiley: laugh

jonwin and I are going to his brother's house in 4 hours. His mom used to do the dinner, but now it's time to pass the day on and younger folks to do the work of making dinner.

We are bringing store bought pies and I will suffer turkey for family tradition.

My dad hates turkey and since his birthday often was on the same day, we grew up having Roast Prime Rib or other tender cut of prime beef. Unfortantly this year, all of the family in town are having turkey, so he going to my sister's, who is baking a ham along with the roast turkey.

Someday I'll be able to have roast beef for thankgiving again. At least one of my daughters is making it for our family christmas dinner.

Ahh. Just finished the 'traditional' cleaning of the pool, and there's a chance the kids can get in it this afternoon.

Yep, feels like Thanksgiving.

(I'm actually thankful I didn't have to drive through any snow to get over here....HAHAHA)

I don't see how being on the other side of the Atlantic to America makes it local knowledge.

Anyway I know quite a bit about Japanese traditions.

So how's about you go commit Harikari and GFY.
