Now I know this is ********* If she was as upper-class as you claim, she would know that this is as horribly tacky as it is, and bad wedding etiquette. It's too early for even a save-the-date, much less an invite.
Hey, I didn't send out the invites, and neither did she, so don't look at me. Besides, I doubt that even she knows the extent of her family...
Plus, you've got to understand that her culture (Persian) is very different from ours. I've offended a whole lot of her relatives by saying things we say normally here, and they've said some things that I'm not really comfortable with. You can't really look at this from an American point of view on this one.
To be quite honest, despite both of our objections, this wedding is pretty much out of our hands. Neither of us personally have the funds to even attempt a reasonable wedding by ourselves, and if we alienate our families we wouldn't even be given pledges.
Both of us fought for over 3 months for more control but eventually we lost. The only real control we have is choosing where to have it (our parents can't agree, her family is Muslim but mine are all hardcore athiests), and what our honeymoon will be.

I'm from a light-blue collar background my self... hey wait a minute do I smell something???
Its my ******** meter.
Lets see 75k on a wedding and an Iranian oil magnate future father inlaw, who has no problem marrying off his teenage daughter some three years from now even though she has her whole life in front of her? Wow!!! and the guests even sent back their 'save a date'invitations, all 400 of them.
Work on making this more convincing.
If you'll tell me when I started caring about whether or not you thought my wedding was genuine...?
