the question is who thought it was a good idea to bring equipment onto a historic building, lending the potential to break it for shooting a commercial?

This was all the rage when I went to Peru this fall. The beer is called 'Cuzqueña, which means 'from Cuzco'. The ruins are outside of Cuzco near the jungle, and the most important cultural patrimony of our country. It turns out that this guy was filming a TV commercial in the ruins, in what is considered the holiest of spots, the Intihuatana. The crane chipped a piece of the stone, and now the energies contained within (so the locals believe) are all whacked out. It's a huge deal, the whole stone was roped off and now you're not allowed to touch it. Many people used it as a purifying place, to heal themselves. It's a great affront to native culture and because of this, no one will be allowed to touch the Intihuatana ever again. They're even discussing closing access to the ruins.

I highly recommend visiting them. They were magical.

Hm. If this is such an uproar, I wonder what they'll do once they get their hands on Fujimori. That is, if Chile hands him over.

On the other hand, maybe Totem has a point...

Guess he should have been more careful. Six years does seem a bit much, unless they were filming there without permission. Then again it is a holy site for the natives and a historic landmark for Peru.

Wonder what someone in the U.S. would get for breaking off Washington's nose at Mount Rushmore.

Simple. We wouldn't let a bloody foreign film crew swing cranes around Washington's nose in the first place. They've already spoiled their own lands, now they want ours!
