Sick at work.Follow

#1 Nov 09 2005 at 9:59 AM Rating: Decent
When I am sick at work I always try to stay home. I do not like coming in and chancing getting my co-workers sick. I had the Flu just 2 weeks ago and missed 2 days of work. Now one of my co-workers has been sick the past couple days, but yet still comes into work. He is not shy about it either, he will still get up right in your face like you are not trying to aviod him.

He said this morning that he went to the doctor and he has bronchitus and has been coughing all morning. I have just recently started coughing now and bronchitus was something I always got as a kid and I am guessing thanks to him I will now have it again.

What should I do? I just missed 2 days of work and I am on overtime because we are very busy. I am getting sick and normally would go home to prevent spreading it to others, but I don't want my employer to get mad cause I am missing too much time, but I also don't want to spread it to others.

Smiley: mad

Get one of those handy dandy masks or warn your co workers that they may want to stay a safe distance from you.

You can not help that you are getting sick. You did the responsible thing by staying home the last time. Its unfortunate that others don't see it in the same ligh and come to work infecting others.

I dont think your boss would be as upset as he would be if you had been taking mental health days or vacations on top of one another. You're sick, visibly so.

Get your lazy *** to work you fucking pussy! And take Katie's advice, buy a mask and wear it when you are around others. Tokyo has one of the most dense populations on Earth and the Japanese cut down on communicable illnesses greatly by the use of these masks.

I am at work and it has nothing to do with being a pussy. It is called curtoesy for your fellow workers. Maybe the dipshit that came into work with this and gave it to me should have worn a mask. I will proably just come in sick and let everyone know that I got it from him.

Hey, I stayed home yesterday! Felt okay waking up this morning, feel like crap at work now, but they just keep throwing things on my desk that need to be done lickity-split.

No rest for the weary and plagued.

My reports are printing now, so don't ask

If you can't take any time off then get a bottle of hand sanitizer and a box of tissues. If you are diligent about keeping your hands clean and sneezing into the tissues you will go a long way towards not making your coworkers sick.

Yes, he should have worn a mask. Doesn't make you less of a pussy. You should have said something to the guy. Something along the lines of "Excuse me, but your sick and I'd rather not be. Please don't stand so close to me or breath in my general direction." or "Hey buddy, get yer filthy disease ridden **** away from me, feckin' scumbag.", both of which should get your point across effectively. Couth in such situations isn't always called for.

Yeah, and get those germ-killing Kleenex, those are neat! Also, lysol on door handles/keyboard/mouse/etc.

Take an hour to visit a doctor - maybe take a long lunch for it. If you can't schedule an appointment with your regular physician, the ER will probably be fine. Explain a few key points: you've had bronchitis before, a co-worker has come down with it, and you are showing symptoms. Once you've had a respiratory infection like that your odds of getting it later go up dramatically.

Have him prescribe Zithromax - the new form, the three-day set. Pick it up at a local pharmacy and head back to work. Those antibiotics are strong enough to set you right by the end of the week.

Jacob I did actually say something to him. When he said he was getting sick on Monday I said "thanks now I will proably be sick again", but he did not seem to really care. I proably picked it up last night after work when I jump started his car for him because he left his lights on all day.

Thanks Wing, I will ask my doctor about it.

I have this issue, but with school, not work. And in class, you are packed into a lecture hall elbow to elbow like sardines. I -hate- missing lecture, particularly in areas such as history...you miss so much just by skipping out on one class. I think I would have to have appendicitis to not go.

I have had a cold three times since class started. I guess there are other students who feel the same way I do.
