My friend who works at Barnes has an advance copy of Feast for Crows in his hands as we speak.

Amazon.com says "This title will be released on November 8, 2005. You may order it now and we will ship it to you when it arrives. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com."

And yet I still can't bring myself to believe it's actually done and printed and ready for my eyes. It's been so long, dare I hope that this time tomorrow I'll be reading it?!?

Holy. Fucing. ****.

I had totally forgotten about this series since I burned SoS in protest.

I just got Knife of Dreams from Robert "I sh
it words" Jordan.

Now I know what I can pick up to kill time while I am supposed to be studying.

I'm not going to buy the book before its out. It would just be my luck that it would be held back yet again. I think I'll just run my butt off to B&N in a couple days instead.

I've never thrown a book, but I was in a gloom after I was done with SoS. I mean, wtf? I was going to re-read it, but I think I'll just dive right in. I remember where everyone is anyway.

Hey Redyne! Haven't seen you in so long! Yep, that's her. She'll be only 19 months old when the new tot arrives. +_+

She was a flower girl on Saturday! :D

From Amazon -

Quote:

From Publishers Weekly
Long-awaited doesn't begin to describe this fourth installment in bestseller Martin's staggeringly epic Song of Ice and Fire. Speculation has run rampant since the previous entry, A Storm of Swords, appeared in 2000, and Feast teases at the important questions but offers few solid answers. As the book begins, Brienne of Tarth is looking for Lady Catelyn's daughters, Queen Cersei is losing her mind and Arya Stark is training with the Faceless Men of Braavos; all three wind up in cliffhangers that would do justice to any soap opera. Meanwhile, other familiar faces—notably Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen—are glaringly absent though promised to return in book five. Martin's Web site explains that Feast and the forthcoming A Dance of Dragons were written as one book and split after they grew too big for one volume, and it shows. This is not Act I Scene 4 but Act II Scene 1, laying groundwork more than advancing the plot, and it sorely misses its other half. The slim pickings here are tasty, but in no way satisfying. (Nov.)

Not that I don't have faith in Martin to tell his story in a superb fashion - just an interesting set of facts to note before we start reading.

Sadly I'm holding off 'til Christmas for this one - I feel like I should give my folks the option of giving me something other than Best Buy gift certificates. I think it depresses my mother. (`You don't want presents?` "No, mom. Gift certificates are fine. They get all my money anyway.")

SPOILERS

Ahhh I wish I hadn't read that!!

But since I did.. not that I'll miss Danaerys chapters this time around. She was such a snooze fest once Drogo ate it. I'll miss Bran and Jon, but am not heartbroken about not hearing of Stannis through Davos. Talk about zzzz. Or is he not with them? I can't remember.

I think Stannis (with his sorceress-***** in tow) made it up to the Wall around the end of book 3, shortly after Jon had been voted head chief high muckity muck whatever to take over for the recently deceased Lord Mormont.

But it's been awhile since I've read it.

Yeah, IIRC, he'd just been named Night's Watch Commander and there were hints that he is the real savior that guy with the flaming sword is pretending to be, though I didn't catch that when I first read the book. I meant Davos though, was he with Stannis up at the wall? Or was Stannis' appearance seen through Jon's eyes? I seem to remember something about Davos being imprisoned for trying to kill Melisandre and trying to save Edric Storm.

Tyrion -is- one of the best characters to read. I don't know about the rest of you, but I get pretty damn tired of reading stories about the pretty people. It's a given that we're to be surrounded with 'em since the books cover members of the aristocracy of that particular world - Tyrion makes a nice counterpoint. He's still upper crust, but he's deformed; intelligent, but bitter; from a powerful family, but an unwanted child, no recognition from his father until the favored son was thought dead, etc.

Watching him find his breaking point in the third book was delicious - in particular his rejection of Jaime's explaination of what really really happened with his first wife. Cognitive dissonance and a rejection of family - our spiteful dwarf has gone psycho for us. Lovely! His chapters will be a joy to read, whenever Martin gets back to them.

Assuming, of course, that he continues to live as part of this series. I've had trouble getting attached to characters as Martin makes a point of killing ones I'm fond of. I seem to recall an interview where Martin was talking about book six; he said that at this rate it would likely be a thousand-page description of snow blowing across graves.

I think DSD directed me towards this series when I did a post asking for good fiction reads.

I only finished the second book this summer so I haven't even read SoS yet. I'll definitely have to go pick it up and then by the time I get around to reading this one the next one will be out.

I agree Tyrion is by far one of the best characters. I really liked how I hated Jamie so much but came to enjoy his chapters and sympathize with him. We'll see how that goes with Cersei. I may just spit on her chapters for now.

Overall though I've always loved Arya the best. Valar morgulis. (or however you spell it)
