Best part of the entire article:

Quote:
"This is extremely rare, especially for someone who has been sentenced to death on a capital murder charge."

Now I have never been a prison guard or anything like that, but you would think this falls under extreme incompetence and/or stupidity. My guess is heads will roll.

It would seem the attorney would be first in firing range.
Quote:
Thompson had been released from his cell block for a visit with his attorney in a private booth, where Plexiglas separates inmates from attorneys, Martin said.

The room is not monitored by authorities and no deputies are present in the room -- an effort to protect attorney-client privilege. Only a few sheets of paper could be slipped under the window, he said.

"He managed to change out of the orange jumpsuit that inmates commonly wear," Martin said. "The inmate jumpsuit was found in the attorney booth."

Good for him. Sounds like a crime of passion, anyway.

sweet, so apparently he escaped in my hometown, makes me feel very safe. I guess thats why I heard choppers the other night while I lay in bed.

EDIT: WTF, I just watched the video and iam 99.9% sure that those apartments they showed were the ones I had JUST moved out of no more than 5 months ago.

Sounds like a good time for "Wanted Dead or Alive".

All he really wanted was one last go with the bottle, apparently. For those who don't/haven't read, he was caught in Shreveport, drunk, talking on a pay phone. When the cops asked him who he was, he gave the typical drunk's answer: "You know who I am."

Police said Thompson was too drunk to be interrogated Sunday night.

So apparently the liquor that they serve in jail is sub-par.

The best part of the article on his capture was the accounting of the guy running the liquor store.

Quote:
But Jebran Siddiqui, a clerk at the liquor store, said the arrest was more dramatic than Matus described. Siddiqui said he was working at the shop's drive-through window when he saw "some maniac kind of guy running around outside." About the same time, he saw another man get out of a car with a shotgun.

He said Thompson was heading toward his store and he feared a shootout was in the works -- so he grabbed a gun and walked to the door.

"I was shaking, like shivering and everything, but I wasn't losing my grip," Siddiqui said. "I think he was planning to come inside the store and, I don't know, hold us hostage or something."

The man with a shotgun turned out to be an undercover police officer, and several other officers swarmed in and "took him down pretty brutally" within three feet of the store, Siddiqui said.

Nothing like a little embellishment from a guy sounding like Abu from the Simpson's.

"And then Shiva came down with a gun in each of his many arms, each one bigger than the last. I think the final one was some sort of anti-aircraft cannon. I think he wanted to hold me hostage."
