No big milestone or anything (42), but at this point, glad I made it!

I sure picked a fine time to be burned out on PC & X-Box games, dammit!

On the plus side, my new TiVo should be arriving in the next day or so!

You're 42. You're not supposed to be playing video games!

I suggest perhaps building a ship in a bottle or doing a book of crosswords.

No, no. Crosswords begin at 52. Ships in bottles at 72, when my hands are all small and shrively. It's all in the MANual.

Besides, I'm proud that I play video games (well, um, did. I'll be back to it someday...)

Tonight, after my birthday dinner (Lasagna, then cheesecake - once-a-year occurrences, *sigh), I'll be honing my skills on the TV remote control. Channel 3 *BAM! Channel 4 *BAM! Channel 10! *BAM! Recall! *BAM! I am one with my remote control!!

I am The Mighty, Mighty Bossto- er, Smoggy, Lord of the Suburbs!!

Here's a mind game for you. Try to figure out how much of your life (in days) you've spent playing video games and watching tv. Then think of what you got from all of that time and what you could have accomplished given a "redo". See if you can compare the amount of time you've spent playing with the time you've spent with your children/wife/family.

I'd suggest having a box of tissues waiting nearby.

And for Pete's sake...cancel the TiVo. Do you really need something that will help you to watch more?

You might as well just start playing bingo and get it over with.

Bingo is for those in their 80s. And don't sass your elders, pup.

Yeah, he's only at the midlife crisis stage. Note all the video games. Next comes the motorcycle, sportscar and mistress.

Hm. Let me know how that TiVo goes. I heart TV, but mostly I don't like keeping to a schedule. It would rock to be able to save all my Scrubs eps without commercials.

We have a DVR. It's interesting to notice how much time is devoted to commercials for a single program. I especially love being able to rewind up to the last 30 min of live TV also.

Gosh Neph, I'm a little surprised at your concern for my well-being. Unfortunately, your self-righteous, holier-than-thou indignation is greatly misplaced. Your assumptions are so off-target its hilarious.

You do realize the Allah website is gaming-based, right? I'm sure I'm not the only gaming hobbyist here. You assume that because I play games and watch television that I do so 24/7? That's laughable.

For your benefit, I'll try to enlighten you. We rarely watch tv and I consider myself quite a lucky guy that my wife and I both enjoy various common interests and, as it happens, gaming is one of them. BTW, we don't have kids yet, so I'm fairly certain we haven't done any harm in that regard. Thanks for assuming that we would neglect our kids. Classy.

We're getting TiVo because it's my birthday and I'd rather pick programs to watch that I can watch at my leisure as opposed to having to schedule my life around shows that I wouldn't normally make the time to watch.

I've accomplished more in my life than you can only dream about. But that's for me to concern myself with, not you. Maybe you should worry about yourself, your wife, your kid, your life.

Midlife, perhaps, crisis? Not yet! When I go for the sportscar and mistress, I'll let you know.

The video games have been around for a long time. I never thought I'd see such criticism on a gaming site. *boggle

This is the asylum, I could show you the door to the gaming forums if you like. Also note, salt goes well with critisism here, but not too much, ususally just a grain will do.

I was speaking of Allakhazam's overall website. I made no reference to the Asylum itself, but daredevil that I am and subscriber to the "No Holds Barred" attitude here, I'll talk about gaming from time to time with my fellow old timers here. Old timers in that I've been around here a hell of a lot longer than you.

As for criticism, I'm all for accepting it, when it's accurate and informed. Give it a try some time, you might find it enlightening.

DVR rocks. I rarely watch tv unless theres a really good special on from the Discovery CHannel or History channel, along with Family Guy and The Daily Show. But instead of watching it daily we DVR it and sit down once every other week or so and go through them all, skipping the commercials and the guests. I actually find I waste less time watching tv with the DVR now then sitting there waiting for the commercials to play and stuff.

and Happy Bday Smoggy! 42. So you're the answer to the meaning of life?
