I think you couldnt have more clearly misunderstood what I was talking about. When i referenced you I was not talking about vaccination (the buying, research, distribution) but rather govt getting directly involved with the Poulty industry to ensure that the proper safety precautions were being met in order to minimize the chances of the virus jumping from bird to human.

Ok. You weren't clear that's what you were talking about. Given that the topic is about Bush proposing a spending program to develop a vaccine, that was at least a bit out from left field.

We can't say from this article that the government *isn't* looking into regulations and standards changes as well. This was about starting work on a vaccine. I don't know how correct it is to comment negatively towards the vaccine move (at least you appeared to be critical of it) just because while introducing the vaccine program he didn't also mention other stuff you'd like to see. It's a very "glass is half empty" approach to politics. When someone does something that will help, you say: "That's great, but when are you going to do the next step?".

Heh. Not that it's wrong to look at the next thing, it just that the way you presented it seemed kinda funny.

Yeah. But that's what distinquishes "conservatives" and "libertarians".

Okay, so in a word: you're switching to become a conservative because you believe in the possibility of "market failure"?

I'm just asking - not claiming you should be or shouldn't be or that a person shouldn't grow and change.

I can't believe we're civilizing you so rapidly. Perhaps in a few years you'll actually have empathy.

Anyone else feel like Mr. Bush memorized a line from a pregnancy detector's box?

"We must pull our nation out of it's deficit! Not only that, but if you pee on it and it's color changes... surprise!"

"President Bush earlier today admitted to planning the construction of a giant LED screen upon the White House. When asked what his reasons were, his response was "Now the colorblind will be able to tell what state our blessed America is in. America will always have the first response."

Except the whole Avian flu thing has been on the radar for well over a year now, damn the prescience of the Bush administration.

And who chooses who gets the vaccine? Do we pass it out to nursing homes to extend lifespans another 2 years? Do we give it to the rich who can afford to pay for it? Only for medicare recipients? If you can only make enough vaccine for 10% of the population then don't spend everyone's tax dollars on it.

$1.2 billion to stockpile enough vaccine against the current H5N1 flu strain to protect 20 million Americans, the estimated number of health workers and other first-responders involved in a pandemic.

This BTW was the whole line you only quote the first part of it.
