Well, here I am, it's saturday, and I'm a thome slaving away over work my boss made me take home over the weekend. I've been at it for hours now, with the only end in sight being monday morning when i go back to work.

My other job is an IT department at the moment, We test hardware and make reccomendations for purchase by the rest of the state. At the moment we are testing laptops, specifically high end field Computer aided drafting and modeling machines. We've been waiting on one in particular, from a little company known as Alienware... This one to be exact: http://alienware.com/product_detail_pages/Area-51m_7700/area-51m_7700_features.aspx?SysCode=PC-LT-AREA51-M-7700&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT

Geforce FX 6800 ultra go, 2gb ram, 3.8ghz hyperthreading processor, Dual sata 7200 rpm laptop drives in raid 0, etc.

So it shows up yesterday, and my boss says to me, "Tim, we need this thing wrung out and put through it's paces. I know you have the baddest gaming rig on the staff, go take it home and see how far you can push the envelope on it"

So I'm stuck here at home playing games on basically the best gaming laptop in existance. Poor, poor me, I'm not sure i shall survive!

I love my job!

Now all you need is a wife named Wendy so you can snarl at her, "When you hear me clicking... *click* *click* that means that I'm working, that means don't come in."

heheh Alienware is fun. Id love to know how the laptop runs with gaming, esp the newer ones. Which games will you be testing on it?

So far i've installed and played with EQ2, Farcry, HalfLife 2, Doom 3, Age of empires III and IL2 Sturmovich forgotten battles (flight sim). And all of them have worked flawlessly. It's not quite as fast as my main gaming rig, but that has dual 10krpm sata drives, and they don't exist yet for laptops. This laptop is fast for a desktop, and damn fast for a laptop!

what were the settings you had for it in Eq2? Thats the one game that can make your computer run hard, esp if you play it on high quality or higher.

Half Life 2 must really look beautiful when it can run at optimum performance... (I have to run my HL2 on pretty low settings so I miss a lot of the eye-candy in the game)

Max settings, 1200 x 768 resolution (it's one of those widescreen books) no problems whatsoever. The only downlide to this laptop is that max settings eats the battery life, and it gets hot enough that putting it on your lap whilst gaming is an invitation not to ever have children...

ogame looks cool on it too

Kao, The most demanding game I've found thus far is the new F.E.A.R Game. I can run all those you listed full bore at 1600x1200 with barely a hitch, graphix levels pegged. F.E.A.R I've gotta pull everything midrange at 1024x786 and I'll still see a slow down or two. Kick *** game to boot.

If ya like a scary factor of doom3, 3X better game play then counter-strike (the fucking AI in the game is amazing), and alittle max-payne slow-mo effects sprinkled on top of it, then pick up F.E.A.R

Edit: This commercial was brought to you by some dumb polish kid who thought his post sounded too much like it belonged on day-time T.V. trying to sell generic swords to rednecks.

It took me a whole day to connect this "shining" reference. Smiley: lol
I knew it was somehow familiar.
