Scientists believe they are closer to understanding how to control appetite.

Two studies in Science magazine look at brain cells, and their signals, that appear to drive weight loss and suppress hunger.

So it seems they are close to developing a pill that prevents hunger. A groundbreaking slimming pill/treatment.

I am on a diet and exercise regime myself right now. It is so hard to keep to, I have one day off a week where I eat what I like and 6 days of regime. Its hard, but I manage. I would not wish to take this pill for myself but I wonder ...

How helpful this would be for those suffering from massive weight gain from dietary issues or metabolism issues (being overweight can be the result of a medical condition).

It depends what type of hunger they are suppressing, I think. There are hundreds of pills out there now that you can buy over the counter that supposedly speed up your metabolism or suppress your hunger.
But usually, those that are significantly overweight or have an issue with food don't really have an issue with hunger per se, as in physical hunger. It is usually a result of emotional hunger. Not eating when they are hungry but eating to suppress or satify some other emotion. Essentially, using food as a drug.

But who knows. Maybe this will be the next magic pill.

the problem with pills is that they don't change the behavior that made you fat in the first place. people that are grossly obese didnt get that way over night.
So while the pills may supress the appetite it is only a temporary fix. There is no miracle for being fat. You can change your diet but you still need to address the behavorial issues whether it be laziness or that you overeat when you are upset.

Maybe the idea is that if you take enough pills, you'll be full.
