Odd question re: dancingFollow

I'm going to this swing-dancing thing on the 12th for charity and they're doing lessons and all that there. I think it sounds fun. However, I have no idea what to wear, haha. Anyone here do swing dancing? I want to look nice, not show up wearing sweat pants as it is supposed to be a fairly nice function with dessert and all that. Normally I would wear a dress or something, but I'm not sure how "swingy" swing dancing is and people don't want to see that before eating.

Suggestions?

A black Teddy.

Make sure to take pictures, and post them later.

Don't you watch TV? You have to wear Khakis.

It's either that or a really big skirt/dress and dance with sailors.

Perhaps a video will help!

Most swing dances are pretty old, from a time when women only wore skirts. I'd wear a full-ish skirt and a nice petticoat, if you have one. Comfortable pumps.

Swing Dancing Vintage Clothes

Hopefully this site will give you a general idea. Basically, it sounds like a comfortable, light skirt/cocktail dress (swing dancing is really, really physical).

hehe, I think I may just go with the khakis actually. I don't want to spend money on specialty clothes for one night out dancing (I'm past prom age, haha). If I find myself madly in love with it and hunting down swing dances regularly, then maybe I'll go for the whole look.

Thanks for the help guys!

That's more of what I use to see when swing was supposed to be "in".

That first model looks like a poorly made mannequin. Or at least she does in the first picture. I'm all about the red wrap dress though.

And I can't see that bit of retro-50's clipart without thinking "Institute of Good Cheer".

anything will work so long as you can really move comfortably. Don't wear heels you'll break your ankles. Khakis should do well just wear a nice looking shirt. If you have a skirt you already own and think may work, try moving in every position you can think of to ensure it allows you maximum movement.

I never took lessons so Im not a natural but a lot of the shows I go to have swing music and it is one of the most fun dances out there.

years of dance lessons and I am still a klutz. The best advice I can give is wear something that you can move easily in and won't sweat like a hog. heavy fabrics tend to make you sweat ALOT and overheat.
If you have a light flouncy skirt, lycra type fabric would work. For shoes, if you do want to wear heels get ones with a thick heel...such as character shoes.
If you don't have a good cardio don't be too upset if you get exhausted quickly. Have a good time, Swing is ALOT of fun!

Dipping happens from the knees not the back, remember this so you dont ***** up your back.

Check the local Goodwill they often have some REALLY good outfits.those knee/above the knee length black flouncy lycra skirts always work well.

Thats when you bring out the dolly and just have people wheel you around in circles.

Thats what you said the last time I paid you to wheel me around the ballroom. Get crackin on that cardio, I'd like to make a complete circle this time.

I somehow missed this before. What is it with you and monkey-lingerie? You dress in it, you want others to, does your girlfriend know what she's getting into? Just get this and you won't even need to buy it an engagement ring!

Smiley: inlove
