May be heading to Kansas City for some kind of conference. If I go, can anyone point to me any good places to eat, listen to music and other local spots of interests? I know I'll be eating BBQ, but where should I go for such BBQ?

K.C. Masterpiece was good. There were tons of BBQ places. I swear they were everywhere like McDonalds. It's been a while since I went there, and K.C. was the only place I really remember.

I go visit my best friends in KC every year. If you like barbequed meat, go to Zarda's. They have great sauce there, and you can get some to take home!

The Travel channel has been repeating this show about the best Barbecue places (Tennessee, Texas & Kansas city) you might want to TiVo it if you can.

The show will make you REALLY hungry.

If you are ever in San Antonio try Bill Millers & Rudys

West Tennessee does have some kickass pit barbecue.

I liked the BBQ at Arthur Bryants place the last time I was in Kansas City.

Memphis in May, I found out about this by accident about 10 years ago, when I was just down there to see Beale street and Graceland.
I've been back once more since then and I plan on going again one of these days.

Seriously good BBQ.

Just make sure to go to a local place and not a big chain. Get out of the upscale, touristy Plaza and into some of the, well "colorful" neighborhoods.

I live in....ya, KC. Bryants is godd BBQ, but the question I would ask you is what kind of sauce do you like? We have both kinds of BBQ places, the Deep south kind that is more of a spicy blend, and the kind that has a sweeter tang to it.

Gates is usually always good, and US presidents have had it flown in to DC a number of times.

i prefer Oklahoma Joes myself, more on the spicy side. If you need to know more details, let me know.

My hubby, who is from KCK, is also saying "Bryant's is the shit".

That's 3 votes for Bryant's.

Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ is where it's at. Best BBQ joint in KC. At least three locations that I know of... A lil pricey but oh so worth it. Famous Dave's out by the Kansas Speedway is alright. Can't say I've ever been to Bryant's... BTW I live in KC, bout ten minutes away from downtown.

Clubbing: Westport (location not facility)
Shopping: Country Club Plaza, Zona Rosa, Crown Center

You know, if you go to Kansas City for barbecue and eat it at a Minnesota based chain, with flavor geared toward the Minnesota palate (the land where anything beyond pepper is exotic), you'd probably be fine with barbecue from Perkins.
