As a non smoker, who grew up having to endure her parents and sisters habit, I welcome this ban Smiley: yippee

Well, at least they had the sense to not include pubs that do not serve food.

On the upside, municipalities with bans in Minnesota are considering rolling back some of the provisions in theirs, since they realize banning smoking in bars is a stupid f'ucking thing to do.

Luckily I am planning on giving up smoking for my 30th in a couple of weeks time.

Smoking bans are pretty good for smokers getting laid I might add. Picking up girls is easier over a cigarette when outside alone in the freezing wind.

They've banned smoking in all public facilities in my area. Personally, I think it was a contributing factor in helping me quit smoking. Though I still find it odd walking into a bar and not seeing anyone smoke.

It makes it easier to shove some unsuspecting gal into your dark, unmarked van?

Actually, I have never been too upset about smoking in pubs where I do not eat. And normally in the large pubs now they have smoking and non smoking sections.

What has really annoyed me is smoking in restaurants and where food is served. I do not like buying food to have the unwelcome seasoning of filthy ash on it Smiley: tongue

I like how they left foodless bars and pubs the option to allow it

I'm fairly sure it was bi-partisan. I have never heard Californian Pubbies preaching smaller government or libertarianism.

I wish they'd have more laws like this in the US. Smoking at a bar/pub is cool. But it really sucks to have to smell cigarette smoke while you're eating. That crap is nauseating.

Perhaps you should compose 11714 1337 notes to your congressmen.

move to Mass. We cant even smoke in pubs that don't serve food. There is no smoking in any indoor public building anymore

San Antonio, TX businesses have done this one their own. With the exception of International House of Pancakes I have not seen a smoking section in the whole damn city since I moved here in July.

You can't smoke in California either. A couple smaller bars still let people puff away, but not many.

Bars give their employees a miniscule interest in the bar. THat makes them "owners" and not employees.

An end run around a silly law.

It was great to come home for a visit and still know where the "speakeasy"s were where you could have a couple of shots and a smoke. We'd hit the brew pub for darts and ale, then walk across the street for a heater when we lost the board. It really sucked on nights when I was on fire.

I was under the impression that, in California, you were not allowed to smoke anywhere but your own home. Didn't they ban smoking outside and smoking in your car?

I work for the NHS and part of a campaign called 'Smoke Free Homes.' Although I agree with Smoking bans in establishments that serve food, I disagree with ministers and goody-two-shoes that want an all out blanket ban in all clubs and bars.

'Smoke Free Homes' main concern is Children in the households of smokers, all well and good saying 'they should stop then,' it is not going to happen. Children are far more prone to secondary smoke then adults. If you are a smoker or have ever smoked I am sure you can all agree that alcohol makes the craving 10 times worse, this may force adults not only to smoke at home but to drink at home, this in turn will lead to far more deep rooting problems.

The way the ban is now is perfect, and those complaining on either side are self centered and not thinking straight, This is a good mid-way settlement.

Maine has had a ban on smoking in all public places, bars included, for a bit now. I seldom get to bars, but haven't heard much in the way of complaints.

Most recently, in Portland (Portland ME, eh) there was a ban placed on smoking while on outdoor walking trails (NOT to be confused with sidewalks).
