IT's not the money, but getting Jonwin to take it to a jewelers that is the problem. What days off he has, he wants to spend playing eq or going on busman holidays. Shopping with him at malls, drives me nuts, since I love to window shop and he won't go into a store just to look. I so miss just looking a dresses at Saks and Lord & Taylor. I lived in Friendship Heigths growing up and was often seen just going in to look and say "hi" to our shoe saleman.

Though we are going to Philly in December for Philcon. We do most of our christmas shopping at the artshow and dealer's room there.

Do you live near any of your kids? Could they run it to the jeweler's for you? I window-shop/antique/flea market hunt with my mom all the time, and everyone else in my family hates to.

My fiancee and I stopped by to get her ring resized and repaired (the first people to resize it did it A-the wrong size, and B-clumsily so it broke a couple months later), and it took a week. We dropped it off, just giving our names and addresses, and picked it up a week later with IDs. Took about 10 minutes each time, and cost $10 (was only off by 1/4 of a size though). Not hard at all.

I'm telling you, call her sister or friend. Best way to go about it, IMHO. They won't want to be known as the one who ruined the surprise so they won't tell her.
I guarantee that none of my sisters or friends would be able to pick out an appropriate wedding ring for me.

Yes, it eliminates the element of surprise, but this is a ring I am anticipating wearing for the rest of my life. It was important to me that it was something I liked.

To another woman, the romance of having a ring sprung on her out of the blue is far more important. You need to find out which is more important to her and act accordingly. If she wants to be surprised, make sure the jewelry store has a return policy just in case she gets that frozen "gee, isn't that nice" look on her face when she sees it and the ring has to be exchanged.

I feel your pain Tare. All my work trying to get the laws against Polyandry changed has been wasted. Smiley: frown
