Equal rights for Gays, a big problem?Follow

So basically, the argument involved with gay marriage is usually just confined to the whole sanctity of marriage issue. Rarely do you hear about the money aspect of it (at least in the mainstream).

I think that not allowing Gay's to marry is not only unfair, but also discrimination. When you look at it from the money angle though, you begin to see huge, almost insurmountable problems.

If a Married couple is sick, and one has a job with health insurance benefits covering the whole family, or spouse, the insurance company is surely obliged to cover most reasonable medical expenses.

I can see a whole slew of issues popping up in courts for spouses not covered, discrimination due to denied benefits, blatant discrimination and just plain good ol' gay bashing.
Not only that, but how many people would be denied insurance in the first place because of the increased cost to insurance company's (gay benefit spouse exclusion clauses anyone?).

This is a very loaded issue, and even if the whole marriage thing passed, you'd be seeing aspects of this popping up in the courts for decades, and that's just in this country. Imagine how many insurance company's might go under.

Already a large percentage of Americans are uninsured, and you have to wonder if this might be abused.

There's a long hard road ahead for equal rights.

It seems one of the few options would be Universal health care (which can also create huge problems).

As it should be.

The media I listen to and read addresses these issues at length whenever the topic comes up. What are you referring to as "mainstream"?

This whole section displays a fundamental lack of knowledge regarding the issue at hand and the topic in general. Homos' "spouses" would get charged just like breader spouses. No insurance company would go broke. Homos would "marry" just for benefits like some breaders do.

Shut the f'uck up. If health care is the biggest thing you can bring to an argument for gay marriage, you lose. There are so many larger issues to care about that you mock the community (of which you may or may not be a member, who cares) to put this forth as a primary argument.

Universal Health Care is never an option. Fortunately, some of us will still be able to see decent doctors if liberals push it through somehow.

PJ! welcome back. where you been hiding?

What kind of stupid argument is this? That insurance companies should be able to decide whether or not they cover someones spouse because of where they may or may not dip the doodle?

This is the problem, trying to pass arbitrary discriminations. Why should a gay marraige any different in the eyes of the law than a straight marraige? As far as the system is concerned it's one letter in one box changed M or F.

People trying to justify their prejudices have muddied the waters far more than they need to be.

You're probably right. Not like there are any other issues that the gay community faces....
What was I thinking?
